I saw this during the live coverage. What an idiot. One of these days they are going to cause a crash and the whole peloton is going to stop to issue a beat down.

What an idiot! Besides being unsafe, I would think having hordes of people running along side you trying to pat your back and stuff could really make you lose your focus. The support is nice, but do it from a decent distance.

The riders can be fined when fans "help" them in the mountain stages by giving them pushes. Sometimes there are time penalties.

A couple years ago a fan brought Lance Armstrong and Josebo Beloki (I think it was him, coulda been Mayo) down when a bag caught Armstrong's handlebars. Armstrong was able to get back up and get back into the race.
Not to mention the spitting incidents. It's really getting out of hand.

I've recently put my name in to serve as a security official for the world figure skating championships in 2006. My job will be to haul down a$$ holes like that who hit the ice.
