Mail: A Confession
I love getting mail. I don't really mean e-mail. I mean regular postal mail. I can't wait for the mail carrier to come and drop off the day's catch. Sometimes I check the box 2-3 times before it arrives. Sometimes I wonder if I really have a life, if this is the highlight of my day!
Sometimes admist the bills and circulars, will be a handwritten card or letter. But that is a rarity, now in this day. If my parent's hadn't died this year, the total count for Mail Not Obligated would be one - one card. I love the catalogs. I love how they smell. It's heaven when my magazines arrive. My bills - I just pile them up. The circulars...I save them to compare the Dollar Day Sales. I wish I had a pretty mailbox.

I do the same thing you do. I wait in anticipation for the mail to get delivered. Mostly it's bills, pre-aproved credit card notices, and other junk. Weekly, I get my New Yorker. I used to have a lot more magazine subscriptions. The Sun, Ms, Utne Reader, National Geographic, Granta, Mother Jones, some other artsy ones I forget what they were called. The house I live in now has a mail slot next to the front door and the mail gets stuffed through the opening and lands in a tiny cupboard. On the inside there is a sweet little door on a spring hinge that I love to pull open to check for the mail and it snaps closed quite abruptly when I let go of it. The first thing I do when I get home is check the mail and even if someone else has pulled the mail out of it's little spot, I usually double check to make sure nothing else is there.
