Deep fried laptop

So I've got a guy staying at my place this summer. Normaly I live alone but the dude was going to be in town and needed a place to stay..

Any way. I've got two computers... one very old IBM aptiva (in his room) and my thinkpad laptop.

When I came home last night he was using the laptop, no biggie....

"I hope you don't mind, I installed an online poker game...." he said

I took a deep breath, swalowed the angry words I wanted to say, and took it like a man.. "it's all good.. I said" when really I was pissesd at the thought of all this crap now infecting my laptop.

this morning, the laptop was working fine.. He said he used it this afternoon. When I came back home tonight, it looked as though it had frozen in the process of shutting down. Not that bad in itself except the screen was down, and it was in a position where it would get poor air flow. The thing was cooking hot.

I shut it off using the power button, let it cool then tried to restart it. (WIN XP) I get as far as a message saying that windown can not start because of a recent hardware or software configuration change. It offers me three versions of safe mode, last known good configuration, or start normaly. All these options lead to the computer rebooting itself and coming back to the same message.

Needless to say. I am somewhat pissed.... check that, I'm really ****ing pissed. That computer has a lot of important photos on it, as well as other documents... yes i should back up bla bla..

What the hell do people think when they install crap like that on someone elses computer... I find it pretty suspicious that this haven for spyware is installed on wednesday, then thursday my computer is melted,

Any way, thats all i have to say. I'm now using my crap-box computer that runs slower than my pathetic excuse of a love life...

Now then, that feels better.... slightly....

dude... that sucks. What a nightmare.

If it were me, I would see if I could find a good file transfer service... If you could at least boot into safe mode, you could download AdAware and clean the spyware/adware out... but if you can't even do that... crap.
You'd think someone would know better than to download stuff like that onto someone else's computer... Apparently he didn't, but he should be made aware of what he did... I hope you can figure out a solution.
