Kidney Stones

I didn't want to hijack JesusTitties' thread about the colonoscopy - Good luck with that, JT!

Just wanted to let everyone know I've not abandoned the forum. My husband is having some kidney stone issues. This has been an ongoing saga since last Saturday. Yesterday, he had surgery to get a stent inserted in his ureter to help one of the stones (6mm) to move back up where they can use lithotripsy to break it up.

Right now I'm waiting for the doctors office to call back about some post-surgical concerns, so I thought I'd pop on and say hi.

I'm a little irritated with the urology practice that has been treating my husband. There have been several "miscommunications" this week, beginning with them not understanding that the stone was an obstruction - not just a stone sitting around his kidney. So at first, they weren't going to give him an appointment for a week - until I forcefully explained what the ER had uncovered on Saturday.

Then, they saw him at an office 40 miles from us- so we drive up there, and I kid you not, the doctor didn't even examine him. Just said they needed to schedule this surgery for the next day or two. Ok, so his staff says they'll call later Monday or early Tuesday to tell him when/where to come in.

We get no call.

I call Wednesday morning - the woman says she only got the request Tuesday afternoon - and they'll put him on the schedule for next week. Uh, no, this can't wait a week - it has to be done ASAP. But the problem is, the doctor that saw him Monday has mysteriously "gone on vacation," despite making NO mention of this to us. So they finally schedule him for surgery Thursday morning at a hospital about 30 miles from us. We get there, and are not on the schedule.

That gets sorted out and another doctor from the practice performs the surgery. He's been the only GOOD experience with the practice we've had. He spent a lot of time talking with me after the surgery - and was very clear that he wanted my husband to have a KUB x-ray today.

So we get home yesterday and I call 4 different offices for the same practice trying to schedule this x-ray. I keep getting passed around - why? Because it turns out THEY misunderstood what type of x-ray he needs. I'm just supposed to take him to the local hospital and have it done there.

We'll be leaving to do that in a few minutes - as soon as a nurse calls us back about the post-op concerns (which you really don't want me to detail here. LOL).

He'll have the x-ray (which has to be done soon because the doctor injected some sort of dye) - and then some time next week, they'll hopefully remove the stent.

He's very uncomfortable. But hopefully, all of this will be resolved soon. Just add him to your thoughts/prayers/meditations if you would, please.

JT - you're in mine. Hope all goes well with the colonoscopy - I don't envy you!
