What do you watch / what do you not watch? And why?

Curling rocks!!!

The Olympics are my favourite two week period ever. I'm pretty much going to be glued to the TV screen for the next 14 days or so. I'm normaly apretty stable guy but there is something about the Olympics that gets me all weepy eyed.

Of course I'm going to be watching the figure skating events. I have a whole bunch of really close friends who are competeing in those events. Ther first one starts today. A guy I went to highschool with just finished his first olympic competition in the Nordic Combined. The first Canadian to compete at the olympics in that dicipline for like 12 years.

Hockey, gotta watch the hockey, that and the curling. I think the curling is often the highest rated programing in Canada during the olympics.

Yeah, I'm in a goo dplace right now. Nothing is going to get done for me in the next few weeks.

The skiing and snowboarding, the speed skating, the figure skating, and occasionally curling and hockey. The skeleton if it's broadcast in HD.

Just the figure skating. I used to be totally hooked on the amateur events, watching the whole season, or whatever was televised of it. I haven't been keeping up on it much the last couple of years. I'll tape the broadcasts each night, and scan through them the next morning for the skating.

Hey Max, which are your friends that are competing ?

^^^Of course you do.

Figure skating - ever since I was a little 'un - it's one of the only sports (besides gymnastics) that requires artistic as well as athletic brilliance. And it's a lot like singing classical music - the jumps are like the "high notes" in an aria and the fancy footwork is like coloratura - if you can hit them under pressure, it's SOOOOO exciting!!! And beautiful. And it's what makes a career.

Also I skated for many years, for fun, roller and ice - it's something I have an affinity for.

Amazingly, in the rare instance that I would prefer to watch Canadian over American coverage, the CBC is not broadcasting in HD on its own HD channel... though it is there with HD cameras!

They were great!! They're always great. Even at my ripe old age of *ahem* I love the Olympics. I picked my daughter up at school yesterday and she asked who did I think was going to light the torch. Of course I didn't have any idea who it would be. She said the rumor was that the new Pope was going to do it. Snort, lol. I almost went to the Lake Placid NY Olympics - couldn't scrape up the dough, though - sob. I'm with you. Max, life is good and nothing will get done around here for the duration of the Games!!! I'll be watching for your friends - you must be sooo excited.
