Bingo uttered a stricken woofle like a bull-dog that has been refused cake.

Lady Malvern … fitted into my biggest arm-chair as if it had been built round her by someone who knew they were wearing arm-chairs tight about the hips that season.

I once got engaged to his daughter, Honoria, a ghastly dynamic exhibit who read Nietzsche and had a laugh like waves breaking on a stern and rock-bound coast.

... one of those robust, dynamic girls with the muscles of a welter-weight and a laugh like a squadron of cavalry charging over a tin bridge. -- PG Wodehouse

He looked haggard and careworn, like a Borgia who has suddenly remembered that he has forgotten to shove cyanide in the consomm., and the dinner-gong due any moment.

As a rule, you see, I'm not lugged into Family Rows. On the occasions when Aunt is calling Aunt like mastodons bellowing across primieval swamps and Uncle James's letter about Cousin Mabel's peculiar behaviour is being shot round the familty circle (“Please read this carefully and send it on Jane'') the clan has a tendency to ignore me.
