I went out with a strange hippie girl for several months in college, back when I though that the earth was worth saving. On the only night that I have ever gotten shitfaced on White Russians she told me that she had a son named Ed. I had been communing with this Berkinstok babe for several months and was pretty sure I had her number. I so believed that she was joking about "Ed" that I asked her if I didn't know about him because he had died. Of course he had.

She'd buried the child and gone on a pilgrimage to Lourdes where she said she was touched by the Holy Spirit, as well as the spirit of John Lennon. The Holy Spirit she said was now the source of her strength. John Lennon's spirit seemed only able to help her draw pictures of him. I would have stopped her at that point, but I had just cleared my mouth of my own foot and thought better of it. She gave a demonstration ans sure enough she quickly created an impressive rendition of Mr. Lennon in newspaper margain. I told her that she was quite an artist. She angrily told me that she was not an artist, and that she was unable to draw anything else at all... ever.

Sure that she was completely insane I gave her the best of my love that night and slept next to her. I took my leave in the morning and though we didn't acknowledge it that goodbye was our last.
