this may be a big stinking mess, but let's give it a shot. take the topic suggested by the previous poster and think of the best and worst aspect of said topic. for example, topic: email

nothing worse: when someone sends you something that's described as "the funniest thing you'll ever read" and then they stand by your desk while you read it, waiting for you to laugh. and it's just... not... funny.

nothing better: having someone you've lost touch with and really miss suddenly find your email address and send you a "how's life" message out of the blue.

make sense?

Nothing worse: When it's so hot that you don't want to move, and you have to take a long, bus ride crammed with grumpy, sweaty people.

Nothing better: The feeling of wet grass under your feet as you run through a sprinkler.

Nothing worse: Hearing a classic rock piece being watered down into "muzak" and piped into an elevator.

This one is a tie:
1) When a piece of music is so connected with an event that you can smell and taste just what it felt like the first time you heard it.
2) When the lyrics to a song are so beautiful that you cry when you sing them.

Pretentious and overpriced restaurants that insult your intelligence & palate while emptying your wallet.
