Game Analysis
I thought we could use this space for factual analysis of game statistics. mayorcjSR 15:03, 30 June 2006 (PDT)
Whew .. you're 'control' scheme doesn't account for captures .. but aside from that not bad. Here's a different take on it (i.e. squares that can be freely moved into without threat, or 'controlled space'). Bear in mind that space is only one of many 'lithmus tests' to who is winning a game.ßrigaderant 02:02, 1 July 2006 (PDT)
Also bear in mind .. that there is only ONE immediate capture (cxd5) that Ze can use, and it's not a good move (we can re-capture, and pushing the pawn would be better for Ze) .. we're in really good shape so long as we can keep him under our thumb. Unfortunately, he has FOUR moves that he can use to threaten us (a3 Bd2 Bd3 and Ne5).
- a3 is mildly effective, chasing our Bishop out, but we can capture his knight with check, and possibly double his pawns.
- Bd2 is more likely, simultaneously removing the pin on his Knight as well as putting pressure on our Knight (by freeing his knight up to attack ours, and forcing an exchange of bishops .. we have to Bxd2+ so he doesn't get our Knight for free) ... this depends on if we advance f5 .. then that isn't as much of a threat)
- Bd3 develops his other bishop, prepares him to castle, and also threatens our Knight (again, f5 here reduces that threat)
- Ne5 isn't a likely move, although it would be a great square for his knight, he is no longer protecting g5 and h4 (from our Queen), but more importantly, he's abandoning d2 (a great spot for his bishop)
I'm thinking that his best move is either Bd2 or Bd3 .. and assuming that, our best move to pre-empt it would be f5, following with Nc6 (more backup for our bishop, and if he captures, NxB4 threatens his Queen) .. however I won't 'throw down the gauntlet' on it until Saturday Midnight to allow for more speculation amoung the masses. OOh .. that line is pretty (and realistic, even though capturing our knight is a mistake) .. take a look.ßrigaderant
Lookie! Due to the queen threat, there's a free Knight for us! 6. .. f5 and 7. .. Nc6 completely ties him up and he can't gain from trading off our pieces! This is pretty
- Damn .. just looked at it again .. he can gain back the knight by Qa4+ .. so we'll be trading knights .. but on the bright side his kingside castle will be scary (Gxf3 costs him a lot) .. so we do still gain quite a bit by it (like sticking our bishop on h3) .. maybe not as nice as I first thought .. but still a winning game for us.
