Sford usage conventions
In User_talk:Sford you requested that I follow some wiki usage conventions. Good advice, all, and I'll make every effort to follow it. Thing is, I thought I had been following that advice already. Did you see some specific instances where I deviated? I'm especially thinking of your request that I not delete other people's comments. Although I don't specifically remember each of the things I did the past couple days, I would normally only delete something if:
A. the information really and truely did not have any application any more,
2. the information was moved to a more appropriate section or page (and I would normally include a pointer to its new home), or
D. the comment was simple valdalism which hinders the use of the wiki.
Just curious if I broke my own rules. --Sford 08:50, 11 June 2006 (PDT)
- P.S. - I just went through and looked at all my recent edits. Except for correcting a few typos, the only edits I made was to add some stuff, and then I moved it a couple of times. Perhaps you saw me remove something that you didn't realize I had myself added earlier. --Sford 09:03, 11 June 2006 (PDT)
- P.P.S. - Ah, I see. You re-added my own text which I had moved to a different page. Since I had signed the entry, it should have been clear to you that I was removing my own text. It is silly to have a convention that a person cannot remove his own text. You're trying to have the current page contain history information; that's what the history page is for. I agree that it is rude to remove other people's comments, but it is presumptuous to ask people not to edit their own. As for indentation, the convention of indenting each comment *further* to the right than the previous one is silly. The indention level should refer to what the comment is in reference too. In the case of Talk:Fabuloso_Friday_2, my comment was not a response to the comment directly above, but rather to the comment above that. I appreciate your attempts to educate less-experienced people and improve the wiki experience for us all, but I think you charged a little hard on this one. --Sford 09:26, 11 June 2006 (PDT)
- Heh, sorry about that. I actually didn't accuse you of deleting other people's comments (it was just a note), but I think its better that if you delete your own comments, you do so either immediately or not at all. Since your comment was up for a while, I thought someone else had purged it - which wouldn't have been kewl. Its just easier if you correct yourself in a subsequent comment - cause i'm still curious as to what you changed your mind to.
- Also, the indent thing for me isn't about being further right, just about being at a different indentation then the previous comment. Just so my eyes don't hurt after reading stuffs. Fresheneesz 13:55, 11 June 2006 (PDT)
