When we Win, should we buy Ze a Consolation Prize?
WTF is up with the 'IF'? Kingpatzer 12:36, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- I was trying to be polite. I now see the error in my ways. PTWhipplebang 12:45, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
The following was suggested and discussed yesterday. PTWhipplebang 12:11, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
Anyone want to vote on if we buy Ze a consolation prize for letting us have this much fun? I haven't pledged yet, but I'll toss in a few bucks to get him one of his books anyway. This game has been a hoot. I realize we don't have to, after all, he's lost (well not yet, but soon), but it'd be kind of cool to treat him to something off his list for letting us have all this fun. Kingpatzer 17:58, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
- Why not Das Max und Moritz Buch? It's what we were going to buy him when we weren't sure how much money we could raise. Heh...that sounds funny now. PTWhipplebang 18:04, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
- Also, I don't think it makes much sense to buy him something too expensive, since technically we don't owe him anything. PTWhipplebang 18:06, 3 August 2006 (PDT)
- Sounds like a good plan. Lets set up voting for this. It's very arrogant to work on a consolation prize before we have won, that's why I love the idea. arc
- I would definitely kick in something for the consolation prize. I think that's a great idea. This has been fun! Snark
- I agree, I mean after all, he brings a few minuets of quality entertainment to us for free every day. M4cfr34k 02:08, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- Me too. I haven't been participating, or even following very closely (no time), but it has been fun to watch it progress. I'll kick in. --Sford 09:10, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- This discussion actually already has a pledge page here.
- Rather than buy Ze a prize, why don't we wait until Fabuloso Friday 3 to give him another chance? The League of Awesomeness rules presumably still apply. (It need not be chess, either.) -- 17:07, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
Buy Ze a Prize
- VOTE by PTWhipplebang 12:11, 4 August 2006 (PDT): I've had a great time playing and I think it would be nice to show Ze our appreciation.
- VOTE by Kingpatzer 12:15, 4 August 2006 (PDT) : I agree. I've had a blast. It wouldn't hurt to show Ze we appreciate him taking his beating like a sugartit, er man.
- VOTE by Arc 3:25, 4 August 2006 (EST) I want the amazon gift card to say "Thanks sugartits!"
- VOTE by Cubzas 12:21, 4 August 2006 (PDT) We have fun, don't we? Let's thank Ze.
- VOTE by Snark 13:21, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- VOTE by Otis 14:04, 4 August 2006 (PDT) Sure, but I think it would be great to split the pledge money amongst Ze and the winner of a round-robin tourney of our top four players as voted upon by ourselves. We have enough pledge money to pay for the book Ze wanted and enough to spare for a book to give to our MVP after a playoff. Otis 14:04, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- VOTE by Sford 15:03, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- VOTE by SaintPeter 19:58, 4 August 2006 (PDT) I'm in - I've pledged on that pledge page too. Hope we actually win, though :)
- VOTE by Animegod 01:01, 5 August 2006 (PDT) I'm down. This whole experience has been really fun. I'd like to give something back.
Don't Buy Ze a Prize
- VOTE - 66.47.159.86 12:40, 4 August 2006 (PDT) He lost! We win! The League of Awesomeness has no mercy! I'll buy him a prize for something else, but this is our victory! You don't lose money when you win. Except when you get married, but...

- Point of Order: Isn't it a bit premature to be be voting for MVP? I thought that traditionally you waited until AFTER the game was over to chose your MVP. Trust me, I'll be back here to vote for it then. - SaintPeter 20:02, 4 August 2006 (PDT)
- Both the consolation prize discussion and this discussion belong on a new page and not on this page regarding Move 27. Could the author please put this somewhere else? medwardstalk
- Furthermore, other than Arc I don't recognize any of the current major names, people seem to vaguely remember ßrigaderant because he went out with a bang. When we started there was a LOT of work put in to make the pages readable and useful by a variety of people. In comparison I was only slightly frustrated by Edit Conflicts lately while there were times that I'd just let the page cool down in early times. ßrigaderant contributed a lot of analysis, but it was often in opposition to several other major contributors. I'll exclude myself out of bias and the fact that most of my contributions were clerical and forcing the good players to defend their positions. medwardstalk
Here is a list of the fallen (well, just not playing that much anymore:
- ßrigaderant
- bobbie_macrap at me (although I thought I saw his name in a discussion recently)
- wow, this is like reading your own obit. I'm here...I just have a lousy habit of not signing in! I've also come to realize over the course of the game to talk less and not keep showing my unerring affinity for the move that is dynamic, counter-intuitive and totally wrong. : ) bobby_macrap at me
- I don't know, Bobbie mac, I think your questions have been great. They've sparked some interesting discussion over the game. Don't sell yourself short!
It's also easy to forget SalMancini and Kingpatzer who appear to have been involved in the beginning. These guys seem to have stuck it out, potentially providing continuity through a game where many people rotated in and out.
- I joined for move 7, so I wasn't here in the beginning (if I were, the fit I'd have thrown over f5 would still be going on :) ). All in all, I'm flattered to think that folks appreciated my contributions, but really, this has been quite the group effort. I think my one real contribution was continually fighting Brigade to stop talking in generalities and start giving actual variations. Once we started doing that the level of play increased dramatically. I'm sorry that it ticked Brigade off so much that he left, and I probably could have done it with more tact, but in the end it also made the discussion much more productive, in my mind. Heck, now by the time I log in, the main lines for analysis have usually already been done and there's nothing left to really say. Jeff, V, Axl, Arc, Snark and everyone else really have shown how to analyze a move very very well Kingpatzer 06:51, 5 August 2006 (PDT)
Brigade
He (she??) did set these chess pages up and got the game going, right?

(Copied from above): "Flattered, but I really only came on board around move 19, so respectfully bow out of [the MVP running]. You all were already winning by then! :) Definitely will be around for Fabuloso Chess Redux, though. We should get White... - Axl"
