Random Talk

  • Thanks for the encouragement about Suggested Moves. I unflipped the boards to make them the same as the others, but if you're animate about having the flip i understand. mayorcjSR
    • I have a hard-on for flipped boards. But I'll keep them out of the overview and just provide both POVs in any moves I suggest. medwardstalk
      • Sounds fine, I prefer flipped boards too, I honestly don't like the direction of a knight-pawn game -- i'm really hoping they don't decide to strike prematurely.mayorcjSR
        • By god do I agree with that. I feel like Ze is whipping up random community-based challenges just to prove where wiki's will fail! medwardstalk

Move5 Random Talk

  • It does seem awfully premature to be going in, even though I do think it's a valid offensive that cannot be easily counterattacked. We have very little useful pieces out of the end row at this point, and that worries me. I'm not exactly a fan of that late tarrasch defense either though. -arc
    • I wasn't a fan of the original proposal to go with the Tarrasch Defense, and I'm still not hugely enthusiastic about my own suggestion. I'm just desperately throwing something out there that isn't hard-charging in because I think castling is a waste of a turn that should be spent on more build-up.
      • I agree completely on the castling. There is no reason to do it this early in the game. We have little pieces out, and there is no clearly defined attack vector. Check out my response to your Bd3 suggestion, btw. I think that line of play works out very well for us, though I could certainly be missing something. The cop out move would be to bring the night forward or something, but that's a pretty weak play. I like the proposed knight move the most so far, though I think it's too early to be voting on it. -arc

On Hiding Stuff From Ze

  • I actually removed my suggestion from the wiki, even though this is just as public, it's less likely to click on. _Just_ in case ze is looking, though I don't think he'd be cheating, otherwise he'd just use a computer. My response to bd3 was "NxC3 seems like a pretty legitimate response, does it not?"
  1. I only started watching The Show about 2 weeks ago (Fabuloso Friday-related news on Slashdot) so I can't say stuff like "I wouldn't put it past Ze to..." however.. I will anyways. I wouldn't put it past Ze to be using a chess computer to determine his moves to show how community-based approaches can degenerate to mob-rule (the negative kind). Some kind of meta-social commentary. (disclaimer: I'm a big supporter of wikis in general as knowledge bases) medwardstalk
  2. Regarding removing discussion from the wiki. This is called security through obscurity in the IT industry. It's the idea that if you simply avoid being transparent, you can avoid system intrusions. However, it's ultimately flawed, especially here; Ze probably has access to the database backend and a full array of Wiki Editor tools. Finally, I hate the idea of having to 'hide' discussion from Ze, ultimately we're going to avoid talking about the consequences of a move in the hopes he'll fall into some trap and instead he's going to independently figure it out and kick us in the balls. Or even WORSE: We start making bad moves because people are afraid to talk about what the next few moves will look like. medwardstalk
