came with this note:
Many years ago I worked for a Bolton firm that produced a range of powerful searchlights, periodically we would take these lights up onto the Belmont moors near Winter hill to test them, (at night obviously). After a while shining a light at a target in a field gets a bit boring, so we would shine them straight up at the clouds, the result was that from a distance, an observer would see a circle of bright light, ‘darting all over the sky, then suddenly dissapearing’ and being at a distance they would not see the searchlights shaft of light. We reckoned all the UFO sightings around Winter hill were down to us!
