on making

i receive quite a few emails each week asking me to post content more regularly on my site. just so you know i wish i was in a position to spend all my time coming up with things for you to look at and play with. i really love doing it....more than anything else. unfortunately I have to do other things as well, some to make money, and some to pursue other fun and strange interests that have cropped up over time.

please have a patient relationship with this site. i promise i care about it and i care that you come here to find new things, and i will continue to add things as i make them. sometimes i will add alot in a short period of time. most likely that will mean i am feeling lost and anxious, and am trying to soothe myself by working. other times i might only add things once every month. that usually means I am having fun doing other things like travelling or speaking or writing or collaborating. if i don't post for a while maybe you could smile to yourself and say "its nice that he's having fun", and then you could send me a picture for one of the projects on the site that you have overlooked.

for me, the best part of the site is the stuff i didn't make...the contributions that you send me. in any conversation it can be awkward when there are long pauses.

but old friends never seem to mind.

Forget new content, why don't you just moderate your forums? They have become a dumping ground for spam. By leaving all the spam posts in the forums you are only encouraging them to post even more spam, and the spam that is there is driving up their sites ratings in Google (which was probably their intent).

What a sweet, heart-wrenching post. Ze, I just want you to go out and have fun!

It's nice that you're having fun.

If you closed your site down today, and never created another thing, the only thing I could say is thanks for sharing with us the great things you did. -- This site is a gift that you give to us every day, whether you update it or not. It amazes me, but sadly does not surprise me, that some peoples' reaction to that level of generosity is to demand even more. Especially in the face of what you just said about your process. -- Thanks Ze for sharing your amazingly personal and creative outlet with a bunch of people that you wouldn't even recognize at a bus stop. I hope it warms you to know that as you work to soothe your own anxieties you are helping to soothe ours as well. -- Good luck, and I hope to not hear from you soon.

Your stuff is the best thing I have ever found on the net. In fact it could be the funniest thing I have seen on any media for a long time. I laughed outloud.

Well phooey, I just found your blog this am and now I read you've gone off and taken a break?! Enjoy your time off, I have plenty to keep myself busy. Looks like everyone does!

WONDERFUL stuff. I can't wait to use with the scribbler and drawtoy, and check out all of your other short films and etcs. I honestly cried when I viewed your "Request" film it was so funny. I need a better email filter because I get one or more of those every day. At least from now on it will be fun instead of annoying because your voice will pop into my head every time I see one in my box. Thanks!

as in improv, you let your best instincts dictate what happens! only post when you feel its right.

I am infinitely grateful for the stuff you have here now. I can come back and read it anytime I want, and I do. I am thrilled and amazed that you exist, in the world, being as funny as you are. You've made me pee myself more than once. But I've told you that. I worry what hideous things must have happened to you to leave you with that delightfully twisted humor. Losing my point. Ok. It all comes from you, all this creativity that makes my day. I can't imagine wanting anything other than for you to be happy and go off and do whatever that means. I already feel rich, since I found your archives. Thank you.

That post sounded so Typical Jewish Mother. You give and you give and you give...

But don't worry, Ze. It's your life and personality that makes your website so special, and nobody wants you torn between your two little worlds. Go forth and have fun.

Ze: Your site is one of my favourites! I just watched the "How To Act" clips again and the 'endorsement', 'thinking' and 'jealousy' segments are among the funniest things I've ever seen. Keep up the fine work!

and he says "there was this moment, little clementine, while walking in the park where i was speaking, about god knows what, and out of the corner of my eye i saw you looking at me. just watching me talk. i'm not sure if either one of us could hear the words, both attentions fixed on that third thing. invisible and dense. i kept moving with my eyes forward. but know this, little clementine, the corner of my mouth, the corner you couldn't see... was curled up in a smile"

i like this and think of it every so often.

Your version of Simon is enough to entertain the masses all day and night, Ze. You don't have to create another stinking thing.

Ze,

I have never written you though I have enjoyed your site for years! I am tremendously grateful for the joy your site has brought just when I needed it most. So many times at my old job(s) I was up against a deadline and had the choice of doing my work or checking out what was new on your site. Often I would choose Ze and without fail, whatever was new on your site would have me howling with laughter completely anesthetized to the impending pink slip I would receive on so many occasions -- just kidding -- it was really only a few occasions, a dozen or so...give or take 3.

Anyway, in all seriousness, I truly enjoy everything about your site no matter how many times I've seen it before -- and when there is something new it's like a little bonus joy! Keep up the good work but only as you are able. You most certainly deserve to have as much joy in your life as you have spread to others. I will faithfully return to your site for the pick-me-ups you so freely offer...Thank you!
