Those illustrations are amazing. Although I grew up with the slightly funnier (and thus marginally less horrifying) “Cautionary Tales for Children,” I discovered “Shockheaded Peter” as an adult, via the Tiger Lillies “junk opera.” Do you know it? It takes a little getting used to, but it’s weirdly dark and sort of cool.

there's also an off-broadway show about these stories called "Shockheaded Peter". i saw in in London a few years back. it's still, by far, the best show i've ever seen.
