watching cspan

:: just sayin' :: i was watching sen. lindsey graham (pictured above w/ gervais) wring his hands. i turned the sound off for a little while. very methodical almost sensual hand wringing. i wish i had captured it so i could show you. he was talking about why we need $3 billion dollars in emergency money for border control. he said the emergency was that we had not yet spent $3 billion dollars on border control.

I believe that's what they call begging the question.

Graham is such a tool. I heard him last week on MTP arguing with Russ Feingold, who said after speaking with many of them, even the soldiers in Iraq think we should leave. Graham's logically fallacious reply was basically that, since a lot of them are re-enlisitng, they must want to be there. It'd be laughable, if not for the consequences.

Can't we just swap him out for Ricky? Based on those pictures, who'd notice? Then the ensuing debates would still be funny, just a bit less soul-crushingly dumb.

Graham looks more like Gervais than Gervais does in that picture.

Graham is not a tool... he is a partisan Republican. Because you disagree doesn't make the man a tool. Aside from being capable, he is an independent thinker who isn't afraid to stray from his parties position.

Feingold's DC apartment is across the hall from my office. I like the man a lot... especially after his great performance in the recent SCOTUS confirmations as well as his '06 filibuster of the Patriot Act. He'd be a great national leader, except that I don't care for Wisconsin cheddar.

I much prefer the Vermont cheese. A fine Grafton or even a Cabot sharp knock the hat off their WI cousins. To this end I think Sen. Patrick Leahy is excellent excellent. I think he'd be an ideal president... except he cares too much about VT.

Well. we haven't spent it on anything practical or useful, so why not spend it on something stupid? That is the way the government works, right?
