Brylcreem's Effortless TV Ad

quite a fun commercial, and the "making of" spoof is quite fun as well ::

personally i imagined that comercials such as these were staged by a much higher degree of mechanics rather then human skill. the effortlessness that is reached through a great deal of effort as is a demonstration of the give and take of nature that only has exception in certain parts of life, most of which connected with human emotion or interaction (correct me im i'm wrong, its 5am im tired)
so thank you for providing me with a space to write something that ill be too tired to remember.
p.s. where does the turtle come in?

Reminds me of the beginning of Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Made me smile.

The turtle is for the follow-up commercial.

turtle = footstool?

Posted by: bouncy at December 1, 2007 1:54 PM

woops... i just broke something...

The turtle is on the floor in front of the tv, but it doesn't do anything (not even slowly like a normal turtle).

Why do you put "making of" in "quotes"? Isn't that real?! Either I'm really tired, really gullible, or really stupid.

It's not a spoof apparently. It's on the brylcream official site. It is quite funny however. It would be really amazing if there really weren't any camera or visual tricks used.

link to official site showing "making of" here.

Awesome. Thanks for that. Has a good Gondry feel to it.

and the turtle moves forward to eat the toast and becomes a footstool :)

I think the turtle is supposed to be representative of minimal effort, which they might have confused with slowness?

The turtle comes in to do one thing only turtles can do, be totally awesome just sitting there. The only other species ever to accomplish that where the huts.

Hey, I can do that too!

Posted by: Katzy at December 3, 2007 2:18 AM

The turtle is sitting in front of the TV and he offers the remainder of his toast to it at the end of the film. Nothing more than a companion prop to my note.

Posted by: Kevin at December 3, 2007 6:13 PM

Wow, that's awesome!

Just because it's on the Brylcream site doesn't mean it's not a very dry, tongue-in-cheek spoof. I'm not sure if it is nor is not, but the "mentor" makes me think it's a spoof. The turtle is rather suspicious, too.

Its a tortoise not a a turtle!
