We have to remember that the "Man of the Year" title is given to the most influential person for better or worse.

Adolf Hitler won Time's Man of the Year in 1938 because of his influence in Europe. In 1939, Joseph Stalin got the honors because his treaty with Germany allowed World War II to commence. Other "Honorees" include Ayatullah Khomeini and Richard Nixon.

The ABA Journal does explain why Gonzales did win and why his successor is named Lawyer of the year for 2008: He's the one who has to clean up the mess that Gonzales made in the Justice department.

Wait! What's this just off the lines?

Michael Vick, Named "Pet Owner Of The Year"!

(same logic)

"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers."

I just don't wanna see Bush as "leader of the year." Ever.

Time magazine's Man of the Year is definitely not the only pop culture force in this country that has lost all touch with its' original standards. Examples:

Saturday Night Live- Gone

MTV- Searching for a word better than sodomized...nope, doesn't' exist...

Oh yes, lets not forget Merriam-Webster's new word of the year!! W00T!! (and you have to use the zeros).

This is worse than the time that my English teacher told me ain't wasn't a word, and then the next year, it was in the dictionary.

Standards are slipping....how sad.
