U.S. suspends supplier of arms to Afghanistan :: such a messed up story :: the bigger question, not raised in this article, is how and why the US government awarded a $300 million dollar arms contract to a shady 22 year old in Florida.

A bunch of stories similar to this were reported in Imperial Life in the Emerald City, a book written about the early days of the Iraq War. When the Coalition Provisional Authority was running things from the Green Zone they specialized in giving huge contracts to little companies that twisted themselves into knots trying to pretend that they were qualified to earn big bucks working on the Iraq reconstruction.

It also had a lot of stories about people coming to work in the Green Zone straight out of college with no practical experience and being given jobs they were scarcely qualified for even on paper.

Sure is great to know that kind of stuff is still going on.

He looked all right to me, joke for movie nerds. Well, I'm in the wrong business. Arms dealing is so much more lucrative, and the job security is much better.
