Perhaps try Atonement if you haven't already as it is the very best Ian McEwan. As well-written as On Chesil Beach but perhaps a bit livelier. And longer, too.

Chesil, a complicated story, the forerunner to 'Who’s Afraid of Virginia W00lf' right around the corner, internalized and highly compressed. Duty and obligation will only get you so far before things start to ferment and you find yourself alone sitting in a big thick puddle of regret. Too much pride is a terrible habit and harder to break than smoking. This story lingers still and confronts too many uncomfortable feelings. I was tempted at one point to stop reading, but I couldn’t put it down the writing was so… stylagant. Good thing communication between men and women is so much better today than it was back then. I hope I don’t end up like either, Now please, let’s stop talking about this.

I didn't read Remainder, but it sounds like someone I know.

If nothing else, you've nipped this trend in the bud: until now, the novel with longer title was the winner.
