a little help?

I've just added a feature to the Flickr Memory Game which allows you to send a customized version of the game (with your pics) via email... if you have a flickr account with sets of public photos, perhaps you could test it for me? (try it with your photos)

It worked beautifully for me.

Posted by: jagosaurus at September 5, 2008 1:57 PM

Hmmm it keeps timing out at 50% loaded from Flickr

Posted by: Audrey at September 5, 2008 1:58 PM

Posted by: Teymur Madjderey at September 5, 2008 1:58 PM

works, but I have to use my screen name instead of my user name.

Posted by: Thomas at September 5, 2008 1:58 PM

Sure, what do I need to do?

I have loads of public photos on Flickr...

worked like a charm. nice work, this is a fun thing to do with your photos.

Posted by: Jared at September 5, 2008 2:01 PM

Sorry, can't figure out how to send a customized version... Everything else works great, though. Have you linked to the older version?

Posted by: timsamoff at September 5, 2008 2:01 PM

works, but I have to use my screen name instead of my user name.

Posted by: Thomas at September 5, 2008 2:02 PM

Works for me! And very cool! :-D Thanks Ze!

Posted by: Julie at September 5, 2008 2:05 PM

Wow! No, double wow! Possibly even as far as triple-wow-tacular! What fun!

Posted by: Jeff at September 5, 2008 2:06 PM

The game loaded fine with my set, but the email that was generated included the wrong URL. This is the link that got inserted into the email:

I'm using Firefox and Gmail if that matters and I entered username: joelaz setname: new zealand

Also, it would be great if the set name field was a drop down that populated with my sets after I enter my Flickr user name. The game is a lot of fun.

Posted by: Joe Lazarus at September 5, 2008 2:07 PM

The game is fun, and I love your art work, but I couldn't load my own pictures. I only have 14 photos in one set and maybe 6 in another. Could this be why? Is there a minimum number of pics required?

Posted by: Lolli at September 5, 2008 2:08 PM

Very nifty!

Posted by: EC at September 5, 2008 2:12 PM

what fun!
works really well.
thanks for the distraction

Posted by: image415 at September 5, 2008 2:12 PM

If you would like to try it using my pics, please feel free!

Flickr ID: kodamakitty

Set names:
There are a few, but some of the larger ones include:
Mostly Flowers

Thanks for the great game, Ze! :)

Posted by: LizaLS at September 5, 2008 2:13 PM

I tried this but it said it couldn't find my flickr id.

Posted by: Sandra Soroka at September 5, 2008 2:15 PM

Uber cool!
Works great for me using the link sent in the email. Except, maybe it's confusing for a user to have the Name and Set fields editable. What if you detected those GET parameters and said something like "Here's a customized game from your friend (Flickr name)". <3 your stuff Ze.

Posted by: Rosemary L at September 5, 2008 2:16 PM

My flickr ID has icelandic letters but it seems the flash can't handle them.

Posted by: Addi at September 5, 2008 2:17 PM

Doesn't seem to work for me. This is the URL that is entered into my e-mail message field: http://www.zefrank.com/memory/flickr_memory/pickup.html?user_n

It just takes me back to the starting page of the game, with the username and set name both reading "null."

Posted by: ErynCerise at September 5, 2008 2:18 PM

Quit after 77% loaded. User stomptokyo, set "Hannah's 3rd Birthday Party."

Posted by: Chris Holland at September 5, 2008 2:22 PM

Seemed to find my account and set fine but then got hung up on "55% loaded". So I'm stuck here half-cocked (so to speak).

Posted by: Wardo at September 5, 2008 2:30 PM

Worked good for me!

Posted by: Sam Teigen at September 5, 2008 2:32 PM

sweet game!

Posted by: j.fisher at September 5, 2008 2:33 PM

This is really cool! It's slow to load, but yeah... graphics... what can you do.

Love it! How do you send it?

Posted by: Rebecca at September 5, 2008 2:35 PM

Nice! Can you add the ability to put the Flickr ID and collection name in the URL?

You rock, Ze!

Posted by: Geoff at September 5, 2008 2:36 PM

Works for me!

Posted by: star at September 5, 2008 2:39 PM

I did it, with a set with 9 photos. It is hanging at 50% and if I refresh it goes to the start screen. I tried again with same result.

Posted by: david at September 5, 2008 2:50 PM

I was surprised that it only took the first photos of larger sets. I was hoping it would randomly select within the group.

Posted by: notshakespeare at September 5, 2008 2:51 PM

Nice. Works well for me.

It would be cool if you could populate a list of sets to choose from after you enter a Flickr name. You can do that with the API, right? I've only played with it a little bit.

Posted by: Phil Barbato at September 5, 2008 2:53 PM

Worked for me. I got mixed up for awhile because my personal flick url is /dave, but my username is dave bug, so it wasn't finding it for awhile.

Ideally I could just drop a set URL in and it'd figure out both from that.

Posted by: Dave at September 5, 2008 2:56 PM

I tried it out via your twitter request and it didnt work for me. :(

Posted by: starpuncher at September 5, 2008 3:10 PM

Posted by: starpuncher at September 5, 2008 3:11 PM

I tried it with a couple of my set, and it seems to work well. Not bugs, and loads quickly. It would be nice if it showed you some stats--like number of correct and incorrect guesses--during play.

Posted by: Paul at September 5, 2008 3:18 PM

Now I got it work, but the blue squares for the pictuers were misleading, I didnt realize that was the 'back' of the card. Also I got a perfect match one time and it didnt count it, but maybe I'd turned it over before.

Posted by: starpuncher at September 5, 2008 3:18 PM

Mine gets 33% loaded and then stops. Just sos' ya know.

Posted by: Grover at September 5, 2008 3:22 PM

so cool! works great.

Posted by: enchiladaplate at September 5, 2008 3:28 PM

It's great fun. I don't have an email client on this computer... all webmail all the time... so I wasn't able to test out the sending. The game itself was lovely.

Posted by: Ian Saylor at September 5, 2008 3:28 PM

I tried it, but it said Flickr couldn't find id.

Posted by: tekphreak at September 5, 2008 3:36 PM

I'm playing with my Show set right now! This is too cool. :]

Posted by: Gina at September 5, 2008 3:45 PM

Works in mac FF but not safari (cant type a username). Great game. Are you making an embed-able widget version?

Posted by: bcnstyle at September 5, 2008 3:52 PM

Works fine for me! :)
Played a few games with my sets and the email link worked too!

Posted by: Harukio at September 5, 2008 4:25 PM

Posted by: JC at September 5, 2008 4:26 PM

Fun! And easy, once you remember your Flickr screen name,

Posted by: Ed at September 5, 2008 5:01 PM

I responded on twitter, but figured I'd might as well comment here, too.

I tried, but got an error:

"Flickr could not find ID. API service is not currently available."

Posted by: Miss Jecka at September 5, 2008 5:07 PM

it works alright for me entering the name of the flickr set myself, but when i emailed it, it fucked up the name of the flickr set .. the set name i used was "lame-o art".. and when emailed it just carried over "lame-o".

Posted by: ratpony at September 5, 2008 5:15 PM

I tried it. Seemed to work pretty well. First time the matching pictures all seemed to be pretty close to each other, but the second run through they were more randomized.

Posted by: Burns! at September 5, 2008 5:32 PM

Worked for me!

Posted by: ben compton at September 5, 2008 6:01 PM

I did and I will be playing it for a bit. It's harder. Since the set is of family I don't see often, I get distracted by the images and linger on them longer but with the next reveal I get distracted again. Could match the ones of objects or limbs only much quicker. I'll have to either develop and emotional memory que or desensitize the images of people purposefully. Rather do the former. Never tried it with emotion as the reminder before. Very interesting twist for me.

Another sweet toy! And this one has me seeing people I love again. So you get mad virtual smooches man. Thankee!

Posted by: boo at September 5, 2008 6:43 PM

This is great! Worked for me...thanks!

Posted by: Emily at September 5, 2008 9:55 PM

Hmmm...Is there a limit to the number of photos in the album? I have 15 pics in the one I tried and it hung up at 33% loading.

Posted by: Diana Hunter at September 5, 2008 10:25 PM

I'm afraid it didn't work for me. It opened up gmail (my default mail) but put 'insert' into the address field.

Posted by: Laura H at September 6, 2008 4:21 AM

Great fun & if you choose the wrong set quite hard! Would be fun for the kids when they were bored for 5 minutes. Might make a great iPhone app.

I used Safari 3.1.2 to review the website.

Posted by: Stuart Murray Walton at September 6, 2008 10:39 AM

Appears to work just fine on my photo set (Lhyzz / take a look). I like the "Lucky!" feature.

Posted by: Lhyzz at September 6, 2008 4:59 PM

hey ze! it works perfectly. my flickr account is MADAMA

Posted by: nandaobregon at September 6, 2008 9:06 PM

Does it always use the first 16 photos? I sent it to my Mom with her "Grandkids" set that has hundreds of photos, it would be nice if it picked a different selection each time. It's HARD with the first ones, though, 'cause they're pretty similar. :)

Posted by: ElJay at September 6, 2008 9:18 PM

I tried it again today! I works perfectly with my photos! I'm going to send it to my peeps!!

Thanks, Ze!

Hey Ze,

Such an ace game, what a supafine idea, thank you! Also loved your example set of drawings. My flickr pics loaded quickly & smoothly once I specified the correct username & set name - but getting those right took me a couple of tries because the Flickr user name isn't the same as the name in the URL (and not everyone sets their Flickr url, I suppose, so you had to work with that) and also the Flickr set URL isn't the same as the name of our sets. So perhaps to save silly people like me getting 'ERROR Flickr couldn't find ID' returns - you might perhaps add bracket instructions on your page, such as the below ideas - ignore at will, of course, might just save them time:

(this is the name of the 'photostream' at the top of the Flickr pages)

(this is the full Flickr set name, not the number in the set's web address)

Also, I get how your link to friends goes to the 'build' page so you don't have to keep an index of everyone's game URLs, but perhaps if you could have a few words explaining that in the scripted email accompanying the link that would be A1, eg:
a customised memory game for you (just click on START to build it!)

Anyway, love your work, thanks!

Posted by: Emilicon at September 11, 2008 10:39 AM

Wow... this is super fun. I usually hate memory games like this (seriously) but it's different when I'm working with photos of art that I've slaved over, etc. Awesome! Thank you!

There may be hope for my short-term memory, yet...
