I don’t know what’s worse that these enlisted guys fell for this military ponzi scheme or Rummy’s nefarious demagoguery subterfuge in his illicit criminal campaign. Right now I'm leaning towards the latter.

I wish I wish I wish we'd wake up.

To assume that *ANY* conflict in the middle east is anything other than a religious war shows a stark ignorance of the combatants there.

Whether you're talking about Israel v. Palestine, Shiite v. Sunni, or Sharia (that is Taliban and Al Qaeda) v. "the West", it has everything to do with religion.

They don't hate you because you're American. They hate you because you're "Zionist" (even though you, clearly, are not) and their holy text instructs them to kill you for your lack of faith.

oh yeah, i just saw that. CRAZY!!! Is this like a Fight fire with fire strategy? Fight completely insane Islamic extremist groups, with completely insane Christian extremism?

Do you think Rumsfeld can actually use Powerpoint though? Does the devil actually make his own presentations? Or did he just say to an intern “Make this a little more ‘Jesus-Freak’ would ya, it’s for Dubya”

It’s terrifying that these are (were) our leaders… Like they seriously cant see the crazy crusade-esk-ness of this stuff…

Wow - just read the entire article. I had heard small references to this. Why the hell did this not get more press? The following excerpts are especially disturbing to me:

"“what rumsfeld was most effective in doing,” says a former senior White House official, “was not so much undermining a decision that had yet to be made as finding every way possible to delay the implementation of a decision that had been made and that he didn’t like.” At meetings, he’d throw up every obstacle he could. “Rumsfeld would say, ‘Golly, we haven’t had time to read all of these documents! I mean, this is radical change!’ ” the official adds. “And then, if you suggested that maybe he should’ve read all the documents when everyone first got them a week ago, he’d say: ‘Well! I’ve been all over the world since then! What have you been doing?’ ” "

"Having only recently come to grips with the roiling disaster, Bush convened a meeting in the Situation Room on Friday morning. According to several who were present, the president was agitated. Turning to the man seated at his immediate left, Bush barked, “Rumsfeld, what the hell is going on there? Are you watching what’s on television? Is that the United States of America or some Third World nation I’m watching? What the hell are you doing?” "

What petulant children running our country! They didn't even rate as *Lord of the Flies* material - at best, King of the Hill gone a-muck. The war in the middle east and the aftermath of Katrina were not jokes, but it seems as if one of out puppeteers found them both to be that - or games as I've already suggested. The fact that Rummy pushed for military action - manipulating Bush's faith in the bargain - and yet wouldn't provide the soldiers to go to battle or to help with the hurricane is just another nail in the coffin for the Bush administration's legacy.
