the organization "we are what we do" has teamed up with google maps to create this really beautiful mapping-and-photo project :: you can upload your photos to help create a visual archive of the entire world through time :: here's what they say ::
"Historypin was created as one of a series of projects to facilitate people from different generations talking more, sharing more and coming together more often. The fact that young & old come together so effortlessly over old photos was the main inspiration. Younger people teaching older digital skills was something we also thought was beneficial to encourage."

dan savage founded the "it gets better" campaign as a way to show LGBTQ youth that their lives may not always seem so difficult :: here's what their website says ::
"ItGetsBetterProject.com is a place where young people who are gay, lesbian, bi, or trans can see with their own eyes how love and happiness can be a reality in their future. It’s a place where LGBT adults can share the stories of their lives, and straight allies can add their names in solidarity and help spread our message of hope."
you can watch a score of deeply moving and inspiring videos on their site :: this one from councilman joel burns of ft. worth, texas, is particularly incredible :: click below to watch ::

Lisa Schwaiger recently sent me this math game she made :: click below to download and open it in EXCEL, make your "macros are enabled" :: unfortunately, doesn't seem to work with all versions but is pretty cool when it does ::
here's what she says, "It’s a game that encourages girls to practice their multiplication tables because for each answer they get right, another “layer” is added to the “Multi-flower”, and ultimately you’ll get something like a flower. (Of course no two multi-flowers are the same.)"
