grand rapids lip-synching music video

"What a kick ass video - the city of Grand Rapids has broken the world’s record for longest continuous shot lip-synching video. More importantly, they did the whole project as a community as a response to a Newsweek article that listed Grand Rapids as a “dying city.” Shut up, Newsweek. Keep being awesome, Grand Rapids." :: click below to watch ::

This video is awesome. However, it's not the longest anything - or at least they didn't say it was. "The 'NEW WORLD RECORD' designation refers to size and scope, not duration." I kind of think the whole world record thing is just a distraction - I don't care if it's the longest or the biggest, it's the *best*.

Never underestimate the community spirit (or the outright nuttiness) of a Michigander when told they don't have the gumption or, in this case, the singularity of purpose... (This video is awesome!)

What a great video. I love the community spirit to get together and partake in something so extravagantly and outrageously pointless, yet the community benefit would be out of this world.

thanks for sharing

Not often you catch big vibrant cities randomly lip-syncing Don McLean in a continuous shoot but whatever it proves well done Grand Rapids!

The amount of effort that has to have gone into choreographing and rehearsing that thing boggles my mind.

Thanks for posting this Ze.
Partaking in the making of this video was very fun.
I love living in GR, a very vibrant and fun city.
Currently this weekend there is event in downtown GR called the Festival of the Arts.
If anyone is near GR, be sure to stop by.

The irony is, thanks to the negative Newsweek article, Grand Rapids has now had more positive publicity than they could have without the article.
Maybe other cities should ask Newsweek for the same treatment.
