but the real answer to frieda's question is that i have run a few of the name suggestions from that thread by the ol' spouse.

I talked my way into an IT job. I have my (IT specialist) cousin on speed-dial and absolutely no other qualifications.

Marcus Bales 06-27-2008 08:30 AM

Congratulations! Just like 2 out of 3 other IT persons.

lukkucairi 06-27-2008 09:24 AM

^:D indeed :D

trisherina 06-27-2008 09:46 AM

It's a change management job. Snake is good with change. She will force it down your neck most charmingly.

Stephi_B 06-27-2008 10:14 AM

Congrats Snake :) :) :)

& you'll do that alright!! Most of these abbreviations are used to make a thing sound bigger ;)

Frieda 06-27-2008 10:46 AM

woo! welcome to the club, mad!

i'd like to announce that i am going to try and make the prefab curtains i got at ikea shorter with iron-on seam stuff. i have never done this before. actually, i haven't ironed anything in about 7 years. also, i am completely clueless about fabrics and seams and stitching.

if i don't report in around 23:00h CET, please call the emergency services. i may have ironed the stuff to my face and stitched the rest to my ass.

thank you for your kind assistance in this matter.

auntie aubrey 06-30-2008 02:37 PM

^ i'm hopeless with fabrics and i've done two sets of ikea drapes this way. it's easier than you think. just be careful, hang them first, mark the length you're looking for, pin, and only then cut and iron.

Frieda 06-30-2008 06:31 PM

^thanks, i made it! :) woo hoo!

well, with a little help from my mother. these curtains are enormous and i wasn't able to handle them on my own, i don't have a table or an ironing board that big.. so i went to her place.. it is quite easy indeed! measure, hold the fabric in place, pin, iron seam, iron with seam strip and cut off the rest! no fancy stitching stuff. and they look good too!

cool. 4 more to go... some other time ;)

I got my third tattoo a week ago. It's based on the Sweeney Todd movie, & I think it came out pretty sweet. No, I don't have a pic readily available; it's on my cell phone, & I have no idea how to transfer it over to the web. But it's almost exactly like this (minus the red "velvet" bag):

trisherina 07-05-2008 12:20 PM

Gah, gah, gah. Another memorial service. :(

Odbe 07-06-2008 12:40 AM

^^I have a friend who is a rabid Sweeney Todd fan, I'd love to see your tattoo when you've got a picture so I can rave about it to my friend :)

Announcing:
I won't be around so much the next couple of weeks as I'll be hectic busy. I've got a week off and I'm trying to cram as much in as possible which is challenging but fun :) Then I'll be off to capital cities to be even busier and maybe funner.

brightpearl 07-06-2008 11:35 PM

^Ooohh, what're you doing? Not looking for arsinotherium toes if you're big city bound...

Come to Texas!
It's not all bad!!

Brynn 07-08-2008 12:17 AM

My mother may be moving to Salina.

Capital cities of the states of Australia, I meant, not capitals of the world  If only...

I will be keeping a sharp eye out for all sorts of toe-knucklebones, you never know where continental drift may have taken them. I'll be in Canberra and Sydney.
I love going to cities and scavenging for bits and pieces of art and craft things, like wire and shiny stones. It got to the point where a city friend of mine started saying 'No diving!' every time we walked past a dumpster ;)

That's going to be part of the trip, catching up with friends and other people's rubbish, then the last four days of it will be an art school workshop sort of thing which I am very excited about getting into :D It's specifically 'drawing' (as opposed to painting or photography) to improve technical skills and I'm told it's very full on and there will be lots of important artists and art teachers.

:) That's really great! I hope you'll enjoy the course to the fullest. I liked your okapi book cover very much. :)

Odbe 07-09-2008 12:16 AM

Thankyou :) I rather think it's my best okapi, albeit my first.

One day when you are a star in the art world you will think fondly of those dumpster dives.

Perhaps you will also think fondly of your finest paintings hotlinked in the museum of the image association thread, unto eternity.

Klynne 07-09-2008 12:45 AM

Hi ,

I am going to be an aunt again!

lukkucairi 07-09-2008 01:00 AM

^ congratulations!

:D

Jaime 07-09-2008 03:03 AM

I have not been around because I'd been in clown school.

Think Laurel and Hardy, not Bozo.

Please.

Frieda 07-09-2008 04:05 AM

^ pics! PICS!

Frieda 07-09-2008 06:00 PM

i'd like to announce my insanity-- it was creeping up on me

and still caught me by surprise
my own face was the disguise

mentally deranged

brightpearl 07-10-2008 08:32 PM

I am in the weirdest mood today.

Brynn 07-10-2008 08:50 PM

I'm turning off the phones here at the coporate reception desk that I've been temping at all week, and I'm leaving early. I am not going to miss that earlier bus today.

Damn. The phone just rang.
Good news. It was my husband. He will be picking me up and I won't be taking the bus. Maybe we'll go someplace fun.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as I put the board on hold. Please listen to some lovely musak from the seventies.

YsaPur EsChomuw 07-11-2008 09:43 AM

My holidays have started today at 13.15
I feel nothing.
There's something wrong with my brain, probably.

michaelG 07-11-2008 11:19 AM

The conditions in America will continue to decline until Whitey Corporate America is brought to its knees.

BOYCOTT GASOLINE and Groceries NOW !!!!!!

Brynn 07-11-2008 02:05 PM

^^
Everyone knows you have to stay in the decompression chamber for hours and hours before you can resurface, Purr...be very careful!

lukkucairi 07-11-2008 02:12 PM

I got four hours' sleep last night.

YsaPur EsChomuw 07-11-2008 04:49 PM

^^That must be it, thanks. I was getting panicky... I'll just spend a few days breathing in and breathing out, I guess. :)

^
I set a piece-of-paper-and-a-pencil-trap for dreams last night, but none got trapped. Yet.

Brynn 07-11-2008 07:00 PM

did you bait it? You've got to bait it. Didn't your mother tell you any of this?

Announcement:
I just passed my four thousandth post. I've been waiting all my life for this moment. Where's my absinthe loolypop?

T.I.P. 07-12-2008 03:22 AM

i went on a "date" tonight
we had "dinner"
and then went for "drinks"
and then we "made out"

and then i went home. It was like the most soul crushingly formal thing i've ever done  :(

i think the fact that i mentioned how weird the whole concept of "dating" was to me is not going to play in my favor. Time will tell.

zero 07-12-2008 06:28 AM

next time perhaps you should consider giving yours hair a bit of a brush

zero 07-12-2008 07:28 AM

or offer to brush theirs - like the pervy heavy-breather did to brynn & beryl in their qotd stories

No, she wasn't very communicative while she was alive and things didn't improve when she passed away.

Marcus Bales 07-12-2008 10:08 AM

Well, if you hadn't killed her with your pencil like they taught you in the CIA she'd still be around, now, wouldn't she?

Brynn 07-12-2008 10:52 PM

Over the years, I've found surrogates. They work pretty well - almost better.

I'll tell you one thing that's true. I've just about had it with noncommunicative moms. And I mean that as affectionately as possible.
Mine played solitaire endlessly for hours:

"Mom, we just found a nest of live baby coral snakes out in the gutter!"
"Mmm-hmmm."
"Do you think they're poisonous?"
"Mmmm. Just a minute."
"Denise got bit by one and her toe is swelling up."
(pause as she lays out more cards)
"Okay."
"Mom?"
"Hmmm?"
"Did you hear what I said?"
"Uh-huh."

Nowadays, I can say something like
"Mom, all the honeybees are disappearing."
"Huh. Oh well. That's too bad."
"Do you know what happens if all the bees disappear?"
"I'd like to know why my good paint brush has disappeared..."
