Dorkahontas 07-11-2007 11:09 PM

My husband and I went to a drive-through safari park on July 4th. Not only did I get to see a liger AND a tigon, I GOT TO PET AND HAND-FEED A GIRAFFE AND A ZEBRA. Husband said I looked like I was going to pop.

Tunesmith 07-11-2007 11:27 PM

Sounds amazing, Dorkahontas! :D

but...

What's the difference?

Dorkahontas 07-11-2007 11:42 PM

^^according to the folks at the park, a liger is a female lion + male tiger. Looks like a tiger (no mane) but with very faint stripes. A ligon is a female tiger + male lion. It has a mane and very very faint tiger stripes. Napolean Dynamite had it wrong, apparently.

this gave me a big happy-- knew about the chacha, didn't know about the wedding bells!

auntie aubrey 07-12-2007 11:56 AM

on my daily stroll through the woods this morning three deer stepped out onto the path in front of me, paused, then tiptoed off into the foliage.

Tunesmith 07-14-2007 12:17 AM

A purring cat on my lap gives me a warm n' fuzzy (literally) happy any day.

lucky you

Stephi_B 07-14-2007 10:30 AM

^^ decided that weekend work is totally inefficient (would well fit into "where we procrastinate", now, but am too lazy + a bit hangovered today to post it twice ;)).

Head up, till you get outta there! :)

auntie aubrey 07-14-2007 04:16 PM

i've got a happy for ya. we got a puppy today. 2 months old, yellow lab/red coon hound mix.

he's not housebroken yet, which is kind of giving me the anxious fits. also, no name yet. we're considering "ted."

Jack Flanders 07-14-2007 04:19 PM

awwwww!! what a cutie!!! ted's a cool name!

brightpearl 07-14-2007 05:06 PM

Yep, definitely a Ted.

auntie aubrey 07-14-2007 06:01 PM

okay now the name might be henry.

this is going to be a tough one.

Brynn 07-14-2007 06:24 PM

How about Hank? He's very cute, whatever you call him.

since we're looking at cute animals at the
moment

brightpearl 07-14-2007 06:42 PM

I've been swearing I was going to name my next cat "Mr. Papageorgio" ever since I saw Vegas Vacation. Even if it's a girl.

trisherina 07-14-2007 06:43 PM

Ted or Henry. That is a tough one.

brightpearl 07-14-2007 06:44 PM

Thedry.

Brynn 07-14-2007 06:47 PM

I think Larry is always a good name for a dog.

trisherina 07-14-2007 06:47 PM

I also thought he looked a bit like a Bert.

ETA: Good-looking head on that pup!

Avalon 07-14-2007 06:56 PM

Congrats on the new addition! :) He's a beauty.

auntie aubrey 07-14-2007 09:18 PM

bert is an excellent name. i may throw that into the pot.

it's all academic anyway, all of my pets are called "booboo" anyway. still, he needs a name for training purposes.

i've got a huge happy to share now. he did a peepee on the puppy mat instead of the rug and he seemed to do it as a deliberate choice. also, we did one successful jaunt around the neighborhood on a leash. i'll take these minor victories on day 1!

trisherina 07-15-2007 01:29 AM

Just imagine, if he were a Nintendog, that would be a great day 1. Well, if he were a Nintendog, you'd have probably bathed him twice by now too.

Canines, kittens and human babies all fall under the BOOBOO curse!! (Bart)

lukkucairi 07-15-2007 10:11 AM

I have no cute animal names, but I did sunburn both knees while paddling 22 miles yesterday in Teton nat'l park :D

physical exhaustion + natural beauty = happy camper

brightpearl 07-15-2007 10:24 AM

^Tetons. That reminds me of this cartoon that TIP posted the other day.

I'm a sad, pathetic little human being, really. :D

Then I thought of this cartoon, which is a highly accurate representation of what it's like to talk to a three-year-old.

When my son was about that age, he was digging in the fridge, and I told him to "watch out for butter snakes". (My parenting style is something like the dad in Calvin and Hobbes. :D ) We then had a long conversation about them, which I recorded for mirth purposes. My favorite part was when I asked what they eat, and he said, "Butter and lions."

Avalon 07-15-2007 10:37 AM

I took my 2 1/2 year old nephew on a short trip with me; I kept him busy by having him look for rhino's in the bushes and hippos in all the ponds. He is all geeked up about my hsb. taking him hippo fishing..... :p Nice to see someone else shares my sense of humor and parenting style. :D

brightpearl 07-15-2007 11:13 AM

^:D

This song gives me a happy. Reminds me not to pay too much attention to my monkey mind, and it's really beautiful.

Tunesmith 07-15-2007 03:43 PM

^ That's one of my faves. :D

De-evolving's another great monkey-themed one.

Jaime 07-15-2007 06:18 PM

A pretty little orange butterfly flew in the window while I was eating breakfast today. :)

brightpearl 07-15-2007 06:38 PM

I saw a gangly adolescent girl walking a gangly adolescent camel on a leash in a downtown park earlier.

Jack Flanders 07-15-2007 07:44 PM

Tunesmith 07-15-2007 08:36 PM

Well, the only results for "camel" in the Urban Dictionary are so dirty that I can't even post them here, so I'm gonna assume you mean the animal.

Sounds like it was hilarious. :D

brightpearl 07-16-2007 08:52 AM

^No innuendo meant -- it was a regular gangly teenaged girl with her gangly young camel, as defined by the nearest zoological dictionary, on a leash. In a park. Downtown.

Dunno why. :D

auntie aubrey 07-16-2007 11:14 AM

the puppy officially has a name. "theo."

theo pooped successfully outside today. well, semi-successfully. he started indoors and we had to startle him and rush him outside to finish. but once outside he sniffed, selected a spot, and did quite a number on the lawn.

i've never been so happy to see poop in my life.

Avalon 07-16-2007 02:17 PM

YAY! I like the name Theo..it fits him. :) Just came from the vet's office; my elderly pom is finally feeling better and got a clean bill of health. *whew*. I am a happy girl!

Tunesmith 07-17-2007 12:46 AM

I got a happy, no, I got an ecstatic after hearing The Decemberists in concert tonight.

I'm happy to report that thrashing wildly to lyrics about nautical adventures and whaling trips gone wrong is as fun as it sounds. :D

trisherina 07-17-2007 01:45 AM

Aw, I'm happy for Tunesmith! (and a little bloody envious)

Stephi_B 08-02-2007 03:39 PM

That my buddy will get this job in Vienna, starting on Oct 1 (in a bank, bloody capitalist him!, but well ca. 20 years ago he was a komsomol cader and planned a career in the communist party - a true servant of the dark side of the Force ;))

So good after all the nays he got elsewhere! And then as bonus on top in this marvellous city! :)

It makes me also a little bit sad cos I'm gonna use my long-year office mate (since late 2001 with a single 8 month interruption): the voice of reason whenever I was on the brink of a nervous breakdown, the giver of advice on problems with lovers and programming and on life in general, the reader of fun/weird news to me he found on the internet...

But, well I got a perpetual invitatation to visit him anytime in Vienna! :)

Jack Flanders 08-03-2007 12:11 AM

There you go!! A great friend to keep!!:D

Stephi_B 08-03-2007 05:09 AM

^ Most definitely!!! :)
