The Return of the Turd

Stephi, I found it browsing somewhere and thought it so weirdly beautiful that I followed the links to the original site, which is a Washington Post slideshow of the historical photograph collection at the National Museum of American History. It's a great slideshow -- click on start slideshow and then click on the little "32" at the bottom if you want to go straight to this one and find out what it is.
A couple of you guessed it. I had thought it was a drawing, too, of the birth of a star, maybe, with an earthly horizon as setting. There were echoes of aliens and navel oranges for me, too. I like that it seems sort of fun when you first look at it, if you don't know what it is. It's good to have an open mind when you first think about anything. Power is just power, after all, and it can either drive all life on our planet or destroy it. The devil is in the details. I actually didn't mean to get all philosophical in the qotd thread...my thinking about it grew from seeing the responses. Thanks for playing... |

Are you a random shuffler or a pre-programmer? |
a methodical postponer
|
both. i preprogramme first and that's done strictly according to various mood-criteria i've developed over time. then, only after that's done will i sometimes randomly shuffle within this preprogammed ness i've made. but of course there are also frequent occasions when original running-order must be observed.
|
^ i couldn't have said it better.
never ever ever ever shuffle the beatles' "abbey road." or radiohead's "ok computer." never. |
i pre-program my shuffles.
|
I agree that some things should never be shuffled. But having said that, I do shuffle constantly in order to hear as much as possible and not to get into a ditch. I like the surprises.

I'm a shuffler in Windows or on portable players, but a pre-programmer in Linux.
|
on itunes: pre-programmer
in life: random shuffler |
I get irritated at people who pre-program, so probably I lean toward that category.
Bit of a shock, really. I must re-double my efforts at learning to shuffle. Auntie: So right about Abbey Road. SO. RIGHT. |
Neither. The thing is linear.
|
i random shuffle until i find stuff that makes me want to preprogram then i get bored and i start random shuffling again
then i exchange mix tapes with people |
