On the way to the beach for a few days.

YsaPur EsChomuw 06-05-2010 01:02 AM

Ok, so they've started evacuating people in some city parts, closest to the river.
There are rumours about the dam... if it bursts 350 000 will be in for the dive. But it won't burst, right?

Frieda 06-05-2010 06:00 PM

^:(:(:(

so sorry, Ysa.. :(

stay safe.. get yourself something inflatable, stock up on canned food, chocolate, water, flashlight & meds.. i have a similar emergency pack in my storage room in case the NLs ever flood.. hopefully i'll never have to use any of it!

~~~good vibes to the dam.. be strong!~~~
YsaPur EsChomuw 06-05-2010 11:47 PM
Thanks! It's actually VERY good advice, as I was without a plan. There have always been occasional floods in Slovakia, but never on such a large scale. I really believed that sort of thing couldn't happen here... :o
The good news is, there's a period of three rainless days before us, during that time they will continually let water flow from the dam, so there'll be more space to receive the next batch.
Frieda 06-06-2010 05:00 AM
that's good news, i really hope it works!
here's what's in the official NL in-case-it-floods-emergency pack:
radio + extra batteries
hand winding flashlight
regular flashlight & extra batteries
1st aid kid (bandaids, gauze, scissors, bandages, desinfectant, etc)
matches (packed in water tight bag)
tealights
blanket
whistle
compass
pocket knife + some other smaller tools (screwdriver, hammer, small saw)
stash of all my meds
cash + copy of ID paper
map
phone nrs
desinfectant gel
water: 3 liters per person per day for 3 days
canned food + can opener for 3 days
toilet paper, soap, detergent, tampons, toothpaste, toothbrush
raincoat
emtpy jerrycan
clothes for 3 days
i really hope you'll never need it!!
Jack Flanders 06-06-2010 05:17 AM
^ Me too. Been through 3 floods and it's really bad. If you are told to leave - do it.
YsaPur EsChomuw 06-06-2010 06:30 AM
^&^^ :)
What's the empty jerry can for? A makeshift toilet?
I think I'll add the picture of the SHUT UP man to the list, in case I started to whinge...
Frieda 06-06-2010 10:14 AM
haha, no! it's to collect drinking water if you're handed some from a bigger tank. don't drink from where you do your toilet things-- which reminds me that there should also be norit and those tabs for purifying water in your first aid kit.
maybe you can print a rain poncho with a picture of the shutup man :D
Frieda 06-06-2010 10:20 AM
oh, and add mosquito repellent and sunscreen too.
lukkucairi 06-06-2010 10:29 AM
^^^ :( OK after reading all that, I will not whinge about our basement flooding yesterday :p
Ysa, good luck!
just read this - hope you are OK still
