M&M's and cream cheese. technique is important here: get a dollop of cream cheese on your finger, and roll it in m&m's. Transfer directly to mouth.


mix 1:2 ratio of sour cream to parmesan cheese and broil it on toast. Top with a sliced tomato and broil that too. Maybe not unexpected in Great Britain ("welsh rarebit"), but I'm always surprised by how few people around here have tried it.


Sauteed zucchini, sliced thinly lengthwise. Roll it around a little bit of fresh mozzarella, sun-dried tomato, and impale with a kalamata olive and a toothpick. Salt, and drench in extra virgin olive oil.


watermelon, chopped mint, heirloom tomato and white balsamic vinegar, with just a dash of salt. oh my goodness.

vodka tonic with a slice or two of cucumber

beet hummus

green apple with salt

green guavas with salt and black pepper, with fresh lime juice squeezed over them

Was wondering about about the gender of sun & moon; in the Roman languages sun=male, moon=female, in my mother tongue it's just the other way round (how's that in English btw? or in other languages you know?).



So what is your feeling like about:

I grew up speaking english and always thought of the sun as male and the moon as female - could be all that greek and roman mythology I read as a tiny kid though

the egyptians saw the night sky as female and the sun as male, I think

women are associated with the moon for fairly obvious physiological reasons.

I also tend to think of cats as female and dogs as male - is that a germanic thing?

and speaking of weird germanic words, does the german word for "nipple" really translate literally as "breast wart"?

Yes it is: die Katze - female, der Hund - male

In French the dog is male too and for cats there are words in both genders, I think.

I tend to think of sun and moon as she and he like I am used to from our genders, and that although I obey lunar rhythms as a chica and am generally quite moon-feely. I am also influenced by the "man in the moon" image (from children stories, songs and the like), which, I just discovered seems also an ancient thing.

Now as I think about it, there is something strange with our genders (or it's a ☯ thing, I'd like that) for night (die Nacht) and day (der Tag) are female and male, respectively!

dutch language doesn't make a distinction in male/female, it probably did in the past but i cannot be arsed to google it right now :o

well, it has been raining for so long that i haven't seen the sun or the moon in 4 weeks

but during better seasons, i would go for sun as male and moon as female.

In Hungarian there's no gender distinction of nouns or adjectives. (nap=sun, hold=moon)

In Slovak the sun (slnko) is neuter, the moon (mesiac) is masculine.

Day (deň) is masculine, night (noc) is feminine.

Personally, I've never thought of the sun as either ♀ or ♂.

The moon has always been ♀ for me, for its seemingly changing, yet constant character.

It was almost clear that moon = hold ;) :)

but although we in the eastern geranium steppe have seen the sun sometimes lately, she or he or it, the golden disc up there, the fire ball, Ra, and other god(esse)s, could stop taking these long naps soon!!!
