so i guess tomorrow's question won't be "what gender is earthling?"

Tunesmith 09-26-2007 07:31 PM

Hmm...I've actually never thought about how I sleep before, but I think I can say I'm something like a Freefalling Log...

Being a teenager, me'n sleep have a distant relationship, so I'm usually so out of it by the time I crawl into bed that there's not much time for contemplating which position I sleep in - all remaining mental activity goes into figuring out how I'm going to get onto the bed without falling off again. :D

So it's midnight anywhere. ? next my friends - What was your favo(u)rite vacation/holiday?

Stephi_B 09-27-2007 07:03 AM

The three weeks down in Apulia, Italy (yeah I know that's sort of boring with me and my Italy-tick ;)), more exactly said in Monopoli (yes, there's a city of that name!). That was when I was 11 or 12. We stayed in a holiday flat, one of only three they had at this farm (they planted olives mainly), in the other two flats Italian families from Milan stayed (it's so good to make holidays w/o other Germans! :D).
Day time: beach or sightseeing, late afternoon: usually invitation to a wine or two at the landlords' - all totally la-familia-familial!, evening: hanging out with the town kids I befriended on like the first or second day - playing table-football at the beach bar (spent most of my money on them gettoni thingies you needed for the balls), visiting them at home and once we drove around on the back the older boys' mopeds.

Couple of weeks in England, mostly London, when I was 13. I think it was the first time I really realized the globe is real.

I was from a small town, and some of the folks I saw on the subway opened my eyes to the many ways of doing one's hair. I was punked out in no time. And the continental breakfast was a nice revelation.

I did get a bit sick of potatoes, though.

i fondly remember those halcyon days inside the water bottle

we thought they'd never end

T.I.P. 09-27-2007 09:48 AM

probably a trip to India when i was 21.
-> Bombay: the awe of being immerged in an ocean of people who live peacefully together despite precarious conditions
-> Goa: driving around on a scooter in the midst of the rice paddies, drinking fresh coconut juice on the beach while watching the cows go by, haggling over prices with the locals on market day

that's a tough call. the trip through south dakota and wyoming stands out in my mind. especially hiking around devil's tower.

picture chosen to convery happiness.

the coolest thing about devil's tower is the acoustics of the surrounding valley. as you hike around the base you become intensely aware of the hushed quiet of the woods. then, if you're lucky and you're there on a day when people are rock climbing up the face of the tower, you'll suddenly hear a voice calling from startlingly near. you'll look around and wonder where this voice is coming from, as no one in your party has spoken and there's no one else within view on the path.

a moment later you'll look up and realize you're hearing conversation between two rock climbers 2/3rds of the way up the tower. they're not shouting, they're speaking. and you can hear every word with crystal clarity.

it's bizarre and wonderful and awe-inspiring.

Camping in the Rockies with my brother, sister and parents when I was six or so - we would drive west in our blue VW beetle until the roads got so poor that we couldn't go any further, and then we'd hike in to find a good spot and set up two tents and stay for a few days. I loved the sounds of the grouse beating their wings at night, the time we found a spot by a creek with a little waterfall that I pretended to fish for the minnows in using long fronds of wheatgrass tipped with wild strawberries, and one very special day that I spent "climbing" (on the horizontal) a huge gnarly lodgepole pine that had fallen near the spot we chose to set up camp. It was very safe.
