vraag van de dag de dato 17-10-2008

have you ever been abducted by aliens?

zero 10-17-2008 08:46 AM

something funny one afternoon of my tenth summer. a daydream thing, yet somehow not - a lot of noise in the treetops, a freak wind and a lost chunk of time. i forgot all about it until recent years when bonnybridge (where it happened) emerged as a world-renowned UFO hotspot. check it.

Stephi_B 10-17-2008 10:00 AM

No ufos.... unless they took all my memory ;)
If they abduct me with leaving my memory one day
I wanna be freed by 'Mulder' cos 'Mulder' is hot :D (being my opinion since 1994!)

lukkucairi 10-17-2008 11:07 AM

yes, of course.

Coffee 10-17-2008 11:32 AM

"abducted" implies lack of consent...so, no.

YsaPur EsChomuw 10-17-2008 02:24 PM

I am an alien

brightpearl 10-17-2008 02:44 PM

On the advice of my attorney I respectfully decline to answer based on my Fifth Amendment right to protection from self-incrimination.

I lost a day as a kid in about Grade 4. There was a lot of stuff going on that could have led me to make that conclusion, but there was something about phoning someone who later denied that I ever called (and the vivid memory of our black wall phone in the entry with the stretched-out cord that hung above a wire and veneer phone desk with a black-and-brown-patterned vinyl chair in a cozy alcove formed by the staircase landing meeting one of the kitchen walls) in the memory of the lost day. I always wondered about that lost day until

As a pre-teen I often had sleep paralysis. I assumed that it meant I was afraid of the dark and began to read horror suspense novels to cure myself of the fear. At some point in my early twenties sleep deprivation fueled the sleep paralysis to the extent that I mentioned it to my boyfriend at the time. After donning a tinfoil hat and reading a library book or two, he suggested that I had been abducted by aliens on my missing day, and that the sleep paralysis episodes were really efforts by the aliens to revisit their territory and see how I was doing. This notion, however skeptically viewed by me personally, destroyed whatever comfort I had around the act of sleeping. The sleep deprivation got worse and I could no longer even nap without "waking" to vaguely threatening hallucinations, howling in my ears, and paralysis. So finally I went to a mediclinic, and the family practitioner told me my boyfriend was stupid and put me on a short course of low dose tricyclic. Actually, he just prescribed the drug and I drew my own conclusions about the boyfriend. My sleep pattern was restored to normal within two months and I have rarely been visited by the aliens since.

In all fairness I should mention that the boyfriend was well endowed and had a nice cleft chin.

MoJoRiSin 10-18-2008 01:37 AM

No, but I do believe that some people maybe (10 or 5 percent or so) go though a sort of "brain expansion" thingy ;)
for me it was 29 years and 10 months
and 2 or 4 times since then
I once did not sleep for seven days but I was happy and did not feel sleep deprived whatsoever. (trivia>I have basically been laughing even since)

T.I.P. 10-18-2008 02:35 AM

I've never been abducted by aliens. I don't think I would like that. Hanging out with aliens I would not object to, particularly in some cool neon liquid bar on the other side of the known universe.

qotd 19-10-2008

when's the last time you ate cauliflower and what did it cost?

YsaPur EsChomuw 10-19-2008 03:12 PM

I ate fried cauliflower with boiled potatoes at work in the school canteen two weeks ago.
I'm ashamed to disclose how little it cost...

but in spite of that, if anyone's interested... it costs 20 Slovak crowns for teachers to get a bowl of soup plus the second course.

MoJoRiSin 10-19-2008 04:14 PM

last week, $1.49 a pound

lukkucairi 10-19-2008 11:21 PM

no idea, no idea :(

I shall make some with cheese sauce tomorrow to remedy this sad situation :p

T.I.P. 10-20-2008 12:50 AM

i haven't eaten cauliflower in ages. Last time that I can remember I had some in a vegetable assortment that I steamed. Can't remember what it cost, but it must have been an arm and a leg because I got it at Whole Foods.

Brynn 10-20-2008 02:33 AM

I had a heaping plate of fried cauliflower with a yummy cilantro/lemon dressing at a fantastic Indian restaurant called "Swagat" about three months ago and it was part of an "all-you-can-eat buffet" for $4.99 thank you very much for the lovely reminder! I ate it with my alien friends.

Frieda 10-20-2008 06:09 AM

i don't even remember when i last ate cauliflower-- i don't like cauliflower much.. in my search for Cheap Foodstuffs To Buy At The Supermarket Because I Need Some Extra Cash i spotted one for 1,79 euros for 500 grams whihc is i believe a bit expensive if i see the reactions here.

Frieda 10-20-2008 06:09 AM

"face memry test.

blah blah blah skills like memory are the first blah to blah blah go when we're tired

blah blah test assesses your blah blah blahbility to remember how long ago blah blah happened - your 'temporal' memory. if you're tired you won't be as good at remembering when you saw or did or blah blah blah something spmething.

the test blah blah bah three parts and we suggest you take a five minute break in between each blah blah blah part blah blah blah

21102008QOTD - can you be arsed to do yet another one of these things? if so, what was your score? (i was too tired)

MoJoRiSin 10-21-2008 03:42 PM

Your score: 95%
Average score: 92%

Your score: 82%
Average score: 68%

Jack Flanders 10-22-2008 01:10 AM

The elderly gent with the ciggy and the girl with the beetle-brows. :) Do I win?

brightpearl 10-22-2008 01:32 AM

hmmm.. this gives me an idea for one of those colaborarations or participotato "project" or whatever the fvckken things are called..

only some minor tinkering with the source code would be needed for the face memory test to become the arse memory test.

will need a couple of dozen arses for this though, so everybody pm their arses to me (not you zormix - yours is so unforgettable that it would invalidate the test and anyway i've already got hundreds of it that you've sent me over the years)

and if anyone is worried - don't be - i've written an elegant little subroutine that resides in my pm box and randomises your arses as they arrive then redirects them to an "anonymous arse repository"

think about it people - the arse memory test - i think it could go viral and well be rich

Stephi_B 10-22-2008 02:05 PM

& mmm arse I love you!! :)
