I just want to be clear about something. I'm the one who brought up stoning, and I did it as a reference to my favorite line in a movie called The Life of Brian. In that scene, some people are at the Sermon on the Mount, but they're too far away and/or too uninterested to hear his teachings on peace. They drivel on for a bit, missing the "blessed are the peacemakers" bit entirely, and then one of them says, "This is boring. Let's go to a stoning." They don't mean that they're going to stone the speaker, Jesus. It's just that they aren't really there to hear what he's saying, and they go on with their normal lives. From one perspective, that may be sad. But from the other, it's effing hilarious.

So I want to say, for my own benefit really, that it wasn't my intention to imply stoning The Duke, although I enjoyed where the thread went. When I said, "Good thing I'm not a sinner," I meant it as a bit of a mock on people who really think they aren't, including myself. I love that everyone else turned it into a game, too. This place is fun for me, and I need a little fun lately. Life, as a very smart person once said, is much too important to be taken seriously.

It might seem a little odd that I'm comparing The Duke to Jesus, but I kind of am. In my belief system, which is exactly as valid as everyone else's and no more or less, everyone is my teacher. It's easier for me to see this in some people than others, but still I try to bow just as much.

No more or less.

And then I throw Funyuns.

That's just me going on with my normal life.

lukkucairi 06-18-2007 11:03 AM

pearly, haven't you heard? funyuns qualify as a chemical weapon under the geneva convention.

for culinary throwing purposes I prefer broccoli florets:

they're not messy, and they bounce off in an amusing manner. back when I was a juvenile delinquent I threw it at the forensics-geek/lawyer-larvae who would come to meets at our high school and who took themselves waaaaaaaay too seriously.

I have conferred with my favorite priest on the planet...he says we all knew what you meant, he loves this thread, and please throw funyuns his way...Geneva Convention be dammed! ( his words, not mine )

Pearl the great majority of us understood. If we had a kiss smile I'd send you one for turning the attitude of this thread around.

As for Duke, you are set on staying here, I don't think anyone can change that at this point. Crawl out of the current events cave and realize that there are other things in the world to participate in. Everyone here takes jabs at each other, it's all in good fun. You want to be treated like everyone else on this board, but when someone makes a joke on your thread, you take it personal. That's they way people on this board are. Loosen your collar and tuck out your shirt man!

To whom ever did not like your turn of thread, consider it Pearls before Swine. I found it entertaining and it kept people out of the current events fiasco. Well done.

I have a little something entertaining myself. Think I'll mosey it on over to links.

^^That company has other games that are really cool, too!! I especially recommend Chasm.

Just to be clearer :), I didn't hear from anyone who didn't like the turn of the thread. I just felt the need to make it clear that it was never my own intent to imply that I'd like to throw rocks at The Duke in particular. I appreciate everyone's assurances that I was well understood, and actually, that's what I expected from most of the regulars who know my posting style well. There are lots of others that read infrequently, though, and I like to practice at thinking carefully about what I mean, and mean to do. Sometimes it helps me carry out my intent best when I voice it.

I really do love the sentiment of this thread. Each and every post does its job perfectly.

...and now, it's time for a musical interlude with the magnificent
Little Stevie Wonder! Take it away Stevie......

He's a man
With a plan
Got a counterfeit dollar in his hand
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Playin' hard
Talkin' fast
Makin' sure that he won't be the last
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Makes a deal
With a smile
Knowin' all the time that his lie's a mile
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Must be seen
There's no doubt
He's the coolest one with the biggest mouth
He's Misstra Know-It-All

If you tell him he's livin' fast
He will say what do you know
If you had my kind of cash
You'd have more than one place to go

Any place
He will play
His only concern is how much you'll pay
He's Misstra Know-It-All

If he shakes
On a bet
He's the kind of dude that won't pay his debt
He's Misstra Know-It-All

When you say that he's living wrong
He'll tell you he knows he's livin' right
And you'd be a stronger man
if you took Misstra Know-It-All's advice

He's a man
With a plan
Got a counterfeit dollar in his hand
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Take my word
Please beware
Of a man that just don't give a care no
He's Misstra Know-It-All (Look out he's coming)

Dum bum bum ba bum bum,
Dum bum bum ba bum bum
Bum bum bum bum bum Say
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Can this line
Take his hand
Take your hat off to the man who's got the plan
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Every boy take your hand
To the man that's got the plan
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Give a hand to the man
Don't you know darn well he's got the super plan
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Give a hand to the man
You know damn well he's got the super plan
He's Misstra Know-It-All

If we had less of him
Don't you know we'd have a better land
He's Misstra Know-It-All

So give a hand to the man
Although you've given out as much as you can
He's Misstra Know-It-All

Check his sound out
He'll tell it all
You talk too much you worry me to death
He's Misstra Know-It-All

There is, of course, nothing wrong with wanting to be serious, with a hard-charging concern with justice and rights. But internet sites such as Zefrank are private property, not public commons, and you have no more right to insist on seriousness amid play than you do to insist that people just read the damned title of the book or play or movie instead of playing Charades.

Excuse me, I'm just catching up on some stuff I missed, and I can't believe I'm reading this.........

I had a frog that sang that Stevie Wonder song.
