^for Mo

"Mo was too sleepy to use the word Gledge in a sentence to describe the definition: "The actual meaning is to wean someone off of a medication or narcotic 1mg or less at a tile(sic) with no noticible(sic) cifference(sic) in the appearance of the tablet until they basically become homeopathic tablets. But during the 21 century it became a slang word amonst(sic) coffee suppliers when they realized they could sell the caffine(sic) to the sports drink industry folks.", but would have come up with a zinger had she drank a cup of Gledge Sport Drink first.

^^:D:D:D
i typed the original in my car on my phone
without my readers
(mio never proofreads)

Marcus Bales 03-16-2011 09:02 AM

gledge - to type in your car on your phone without your readers, and fail to proofread.

Mio was so urgently moved to participate in the Dictionary Game that as soon as the new word was posted, or only a few days, and a few other entries, later she hurriedly gledged her reply.

funkytuba 03-16-2011 01:05 PM

gledge - n. the dried-up latte foam left around the inside rim of your cup

Marcus Bales 03-16-2011 04:37 PM

gledge - to move a boat by rowing the anchor away in a smaller vessel, dropping it, and then winding the windlass so the boat moves toward the anchor. By extension, any difficult and laborious work-around that substitutes for the normal method.

He managed to get the belt buckle over the corner of the cell phone, only a couple feet beyond his outstretched hand, after his sudden heart attack on the running path, a gledge that succeeded in letting him jerk the phone close enough to reach, but that also resulted in the tongue of the buckle so suddenly retrieved, sticking into his face just below his brow and above his eyeball, leaving him barely able to still see out of that eye enough to dial through the red-dimmed bleeding.

12"razormix 03-16-2011 06:03 PM

to gledge [v.]

to drape a fried egg over a pristine white wedding cake.

Bman 03-17-2011 12:46 AM

Gledge - a last call for entries in the Dictionary Game

Marcus Bales 03-17-2011 01:16 AM

gledge - to enter a contest one is oneself judging.

Bman gledged the Dictionary Game.

Bman 03-17-2011 09:45 PM

Ahem.
Gledge - To look askance; squint; look cunningly and slyly at an object out of the corners of one's eyes.

• The 1rd prize in the Dictionary Game Doubles category (a pair of matching “Australian Guy” disguises) goes to Brynn and Marcus Bales:

"Watch out for my sister Blanche - she can gledge a figure-eight around mere mortals when it comes to negotiating a Scrabble board with just a handful of consonants and an open double word score square."

After Brynn's comment Marcus suddenly saw through HFox's gledge.

• The 1nd prize in the Dictionary Game Triples category (some “readers” and a stern reminder not to text and drive) goes to Mio, Coffee and Marcus Bales:

Would someone please write the example sentence for me? I AM TOO SLEEPY AT THIS POINT TO COME UP WITH ONE ON TOP OF BEING LATE FOR WORK...

• The defending champion Lukkucairi gets one free pass on Dictionary Game judging (only valid at participating locations) and a towel for this pair of entries:

• A restraining order from Ms. Stone’s lawyers for Marcus Bales:

Challenged by a free verser to demonstrate that free verse is easier to write than poetry in meter, Marcus offered the following gledge:

Sympathy for Sharon Stone

I was cruising the internet the other day
looking for I don’t remember what
in relation to something else I don’t recall
when I found Joe Eszterhas’s blog.

He says:“I’m jealous
that Bill Goldman has won
two Oscars and I’ve won none.
But I bet Bill Goldman is jealous
that I’ve bedded Sharon Stone.”

Bedded – as if it’s just a matter of
patience and cunning:
lie in wait until a woman, however famous,
walks by a bed and wham! bam!
instant trophy.

Who’d have ever thought it before, but
poor Sharon Stone.
One night of drunken indiscretion
and she’s in everything that this guy writes,
even his blog.
Quite apart from my suspicion
he’d sell his wife at truckstops
to get an Oscar, that
is why you never sleep with writers –
because they’ll write about it.
Oh, you may not be Sharon Stone,
And the writer may not be, um, whatsisname,
but sooner or later
they’ll write about it.

Except for me.
Sleep with me.
I won’t tell.
I promise.

Congratulations xfox!!!

Why thank you, Bman. My unlucky day, or maybe yours. The next word is"

themiscyra

Marcus Bales 03-20-2011 10:15 AM

themiscyra - an obscure threat, made more threatening by its obscurity

"My unlucky day," murmured XFox to Bman, with a glance that, had it been a knife, would have stuck 3 inches out his back, "or maybe yours."

lukkucairi 03-21-2011 01:58 AM

themiscyra - divination by banana peel.

Brynn 03-22-2011 04:45 PM

themiscyra - a jewel-encrusted potty chair

Coffee 03-22-2011 09:15 PM

themiscyra

Funerary container for Cyrano de Bergerac's nose.

Too long to fit the standard casket (sadly, all that de Bergerac's estate could afford at the time of his death) without drilling a hole in the lid, his famed nose was put into a separate container within his casket. The dual lobed shape of the base of the themiscyra, although vaguely nostril like in form, nonetheless suggested to many that perhaps another not so famous, but widely rumored, other elongated de Bergerac organ might also be contained within.
