Coffee 12-09-2008 01:11 AM

striped awnings are tacky

The sign above the shop window shouldn't read POHS but POSH, right?

NEW! QOTD for 9/12/2008

¿Which words would you advise Oxford University Press to remove from its Junior Dictionary?

PinkLincoln 12-09-2008 01:56 PM

the few words that I think children shouldn't rush to learn are surely omitted already, so I'd have to say I can't see any reason to remove any words (though I've never actually looked through a junior dictionary)

zero 12-09-2008 02:10 PM

storm, teacup, pedantic and busybody

brightpearl 12-09-2008 02:39 PM

dictionary

as it's clearly meaningless

:)

YsaPur EsChomuw 12-09-2008 02:41 PM

I think intelligent will have to go soon, too.

brightpearl 12-09-2008 02:41 PM

And also kumquat as it sounds naughty.

And gesticulate.

Oh oh oh
...and cumulonimbus.

YsaPur EsChomuw 12-09-2008 02:48 PM

... and cow as it can also be holy!

brightpearl 12-09-2008 03:08 PM

Well, cows will go on being cows just the same as they have no idea whether or not they're in the dictionary. As long as religion leaves to Oxford what is Oxford's, it'll do just fine.

PS rectory
ever so filthy.

I mentioned cow because I suspect it was for religious reasons they'd left out bacon.

PS and annals must be full of grime, too.

Hyakujo's Fox 12-09-2008 08:24 PM

I want bacon in my dictionary dammit...

and an extra definition of cheese!

*points encouragingly towards The Dictionary Game thread where one can post double entries to their heart's content with the faint hope of not winning the round under the The Multiple Entry Amendment* :p

QOTD 20081212

¿ how do you find your way out ?

Jack Flanders 12-15-2008 02:09 AM

Climb. I've done that.:D

Hyakujo's Fox 12-15-2008 05:39 AM

wait for fire.

YsaPur EsChomuw 12-15-2008 08:56 AM

What? You mean there IS a way out?

brightpearl 12-15-2008 09:59 AM

My previous habit has been to dig a hole.

However, my current goal is to see whether I can enjoy being in the maze.

MAZES ARE SO RUBBISH - i'm not going in it. if people are daft enough to go in them in the first place then it serves them right if they get stuck

& anyway that one in the ^picture's someone's 2ftx2ft homemade one amongst a weedpatch and that's their pet guinea pig in the middle of it

Stephi_B 12-15-2008 12:10 PM

"Amaze is a maze is amaze or is a maze a maze not amaze? ...."
I will repeat that so long until the maze is confused and/or pissed off enough and simply walks away!

Mondayish QotD:
¿
This is a small part of a larger picture -- what's on that picture
?

Coffee 12-15-2008 12:38 PM

looks like mildew, and maybe a pee stain, along with a fragment of a painted image :p

YsaPur EsChomuw 12-15-2008 12:47 PM

the ears of a holy dog* with a red halo and pervading smell (the latter is indicated by the coffee stain)
