Best. Round. Ever.

I've laughed, I've cried. A most affectionate round.
The actual definition - well, here's more than you might ever care to know about the subject

This is really pretty simple.
Hfox wins Coveted Second Place for giving me a huge belly laugh.

saccade (n) a traditional portuguese song of lament typically centering on the singer's recent dismissal(s) from employment.

I came back
and I did not expect
back from my break
the new coffee in my veins
and I did not expect
you called me in
so far in
and I did not expect
to your wonderful office
and you told me
you told me to sit
and I did not expect
to sit and I sat
then I knew, I knew
now I lie in the park

and the rain fills my ear
my ear that once heard
the rhythm of our photocopying
now hears only
only, only
only the drowning

As for the winner, how can I choose between Ysa Pur's wonderful melding of bj's and Mozart, or her sack race, or the elegant simplicity and sense of Xfox's power naps?

Marcus. Wine, Dancing. Poetry. Dinzdale. Four of these things belong together....it's obvious by bringing up dinzdale, Marcus really wasn't interested in judging this round, so respecting that wish while still immensely enjoying the contribution...

- I just like you so much for so many different reasons. Every single time you post, I always find myself nodding in agreement.

But really, in the fall especially, we must turn to the elegaic tintinabulations of trisherina's thought patterns:
saccade: the heaviness of heart accompanying the contemplation of an unpleasant task.

Eloise stared out the window at the piles of leaves accumulating with each new gust of wind, and felt her shoulders sag with saccade.
You nailed it, trisherama. You win. :)

Darn it! I knew I shouldn't have entered. :p Thank you, lovely Brynn.

xenodocheionology, n.

the unsupported belief that unknown alien life forms must be oviparous after all

xenodocheionology - the hatred of grocers.

The Song against Grocers
G. K. Chesterton

God made the wicked Grocer
For a mystery and a sign,
That men might shun the awful shops
And go to inns to dine;
Where the bacon's on the rafter
And the wine is in the wood,
And God that made good laughter
Has seen that they are good.

The evil-hearted Grocer
Would call his mother 'Ma'am,'
And bow at her and bob at her,
Her aged soul to damn,
And rub his horrid hands and ask
What article was next,
mortis in articulo
Should be her proper text.

His props are not his children,
But pert lads underpaid,
Who call out 'Cash!' and bang about
To work his wicked trade;
He keeps a lady in a cage
Most cruelly all day
And makes her count and calls her 'Miss'
Until she fades away.

The righteous minds of innkeepers
Induce them now and then
To crack a bottle with a friend
Or treat unmoneyed men,
But who hath seen the Grocer
Treat housemaids to his teas
Or crack a bottle of fish-sauce
Or stand a man a cheese?

He sells us sands of Araby
As sugar for cash down;
He sweeps his shop and sells the dust
The purest salt in town,
He crams with cans of poisoned meat
The subjects of the King,
And when they die by thousands
Why, he laughs like anything.

The wicked Grocer groces
In spirits and in wine,
Not frankly and in fellowship
As men in inns do dine;
But packed with soap and sardines
And carried off by grooms,
For to be snatched by Duchesses
And drunk in dressing-rooms.

The hell-instructed Grocer
Has a temple made of tin,
And the ruin of good innkeepers
Is loudly urged therein;
But now the sands are running out
From sugar of a sort,
The Grocer trembles; for his time,
Just like his weight, is short.

xenodocheionology study of texture and design of the backdrop.

As the lead xenodocheinologist Alex's time was divided between a wonderland of window dressing and shopping for the holidays.

an allergy to strangers; a form of irritation occurring especially when one is forced to share a very large room with a very large number of strangers.

Ysobel felt the bile rise in her throat during the neverending conference, but tried to rationalise that it was only her xenodocheionology acting up again.

xenodocheionology - fear of long words.

Many Dictionary Game players, who delighted in witty definitions for short words, were stunned to see xenodocheionology appear on the board, and they lurked silently, hoping this, too, would be a lightning round so they would be able to participate with the next, shorter, word.

xenodocheionology n.
1) the study of people who in the Dictionary Game are uninspired by the entire species of words ending in -ology
2) the hope that being in the study group will help insulate one from being chosen to win simply because of one's opinion on the matter

Brynn 10-28-2009 10:16 PM

xenodocheionology: in general, the history, study and analysis of common folk dancing steps, and of the do-tsee-doe in particular.

Blanche was unsure of her form for the upcoming Celebrity Fundraising Contrandance, so she hired the most devastatingly handsome xenodocheionologist she could find. Unfortunately for her, there were not many of them to choose from in the immediate Manhattan area.

xenodocheionology -
a long word for short sex, practiced mainly in hotels and motels around the world, shrouded in transparent secrecy.

Ysobel, with a disappointed sigh, crossed out another x-word from her list.

Marcus Bales 10-30-2009 12:28 AM

xenodocheionology - Anc.Gr.: xeno fear, dochein foreign places -- tbe study of the fear of living abroad.

Ysobel, leaving Cleveland, crossed out another country from her list, with a disappointed sigh.

xenodocheionology (n) the study of fantastical dreams pertaining to scrabble and related games.

One by one, with growing excitement, Marcus layed down his tiles, x-e-n-o-d-o-c-h-e-i-o-n-o-l-o-g-y to complete a shock 200 point comeback, only to be awakened by the curious paws of his faithful cat, Bacchylides.

xenodocheinology – the false belief that you cannot really get to know anyone, that all people are bound to remain strangers, except for one, your soul mate. From German ‘doch ein’, but one.

Ysobel’s shy xenodocheinology prevented her to put up a profile on Facebook.

Marcus Bales 10-30-2009 12:00 PM

xenodocheionology - the study of the alien thought prcesses of Dictionary Game judges -- and how even temporarily becoming one can distort one's sense of time.

They each inevitably lapsed into a state of xenodocheion, which the other players studied intently, but to no avail, as, one by one, each player won the Dictionary Game and became, in turn, a Dictionary Game judge.
