I had coffee with my best chica today, and on the way over I was feeling like a little Public Enemy. When I got out of the car at the coffee shop, this guy at a table in front started bellylaughing and he said, "I heard my Public Enemy playing and I thought you was gonna be a brother, and then out come this skinny little white girl!!" I laughed too, and we shook hands and said nice to meet you.

And it was.

:D

Tunesmith 05-23-2007 11:40 PM

I just reminded myself of a time when I was a kiddo, over at a friend's house, and I overheard her mom giving the older brother some heartfelt advice in the kitchen:

"You got ta' stay away from that sugarcane bay-BEH! It's sweet...um-hm. Sweet....

But it's holla' inside."

Veruki 05-25-2007 05:31 PM

Everything smells like honeysuckle :)

Brynn 05-30-2007 10:00 PM

^LOL! the cartoon, I mean, but honeysuckle's nice too.

I'm humming a tiny insignificant secret that's giving me an anticipatory happy, and when I finally find out what it is, I will probably be as disappointed as I think I'll be, except that I'm expecting to be disappointed, so I won't be disappointed at all, technically - and it's so insignificant that the potential disappointment is insignificant as well and that makes me relax and just be happy right now.

It's like when you unwrap a golf ball for the first time. You know what you're bound to find at the middle, but the unwinding is fun all by itself.

auntie aubrey 05-30-2007 10:52 PM

*inhale* the world smells like magnolias tonight.

I feel like writing. Here's a long story about an unexpected happy.

My desk is usually tidy but sometimes things start piling up. Last night it was so cluttered there was no clear space at all, just piles of books and paper. I meant to clean it up this weekend. I often leave jars of water on it but I don't really worry about knocking them over because I'm rarely clumsy, especially around my desk.
Now picture the scene. It was late at night and a cold one too. I had a nice warm bed to crawl into and it was past my bedtime but I had a really good book so I thought I'd read a chapter of it first. I went to my desk to find the book and accidentally bumped a very large jar of paint and water.
Total disaster. I started throwing everything I could off the desk and towelling up the water. Painty water soaked into excersize books, textbooks, study notes, a black texta drawing (ink everywhere) and drafts of poetry and stories, not to mention all over the floor. Then I heard the worst noise possible: trickling. The water had flooded the first drawer and was flowing into the others. It got into a drawer of paper and a drawer of coloured paper.

The funny thing was, although my coloured paper was precious, I ended up with blue that had a tie-dye pattern of watermarks, pink splattered with purple, yellow with green, green with brown. And all of my good art paper, calligraphy sets, stationery, sketchbooks and everything else of worth was either in a lower drawer or on the other side of the desk. The only important thing I had left on the desk was a half-finished watercolour painting and that, wonder of wonders, was in a plastic ziplock bag.

Brynn 06-01-2007 08:03 PM

That was a good story, with a happy ending :)

this made me happy:

^^^
1. Inhale
2. Exhale
3. Repeat as necessary.

Sounds obvious, but it often gets me through a tight spot.
