Bman 05-20-2008 12:20 PM

Considering I lack self-discipline (oh WHY didn't I stay in karate as a child -_-) and I have an ongoing volume issue (aren't I playing too loud?), I'd say water and/or air. But I'm working on it.

question of the day ? for may 20th 2008:

WHY didn't Bman stay in karate as a child ?

auntie aubrey 05-20-2008 01:05 PM

fashion sense. belts without shoes? puh-LEEZ.

zero 05-20-2008 01:50 PM

after two long evenings of the rigorous self-discipline and arduous training that is karate, Bman finally achieved the inner-strength, silent-power and supreme confidence to quit karate.

Brynn 05-20-2008 02:24 PM

Because it hurts when you get kicked! Not lack of discipline - just good sense, and an innate knowledge of the power of love over violence.

Frieda 05-20-2008 02:30 PM

because he wanted to do something with music instead

brightpearl 05-20-2008 03:07 PM

To get to the other side.

T.I.P. 05-21-2008 01:40 AM

bman liked to use the term "karatay" when he was talking about his sport, but his sensei wanted everyone to pronounce it "karatee"

so he turned in his membership card and started doing yoga instead

(all of this at age 6)

Anna 05-21-2008 01:48 AM

because it gave him hives

zero 05-21-2008 11:50 AM

^turns out this is actually the young Bman (he quit karate but he used the karatespeak he'd picked up to get lucrative work tv advertising)

auntie aubrey 05-21-2008 12:07 PM

QotD for Thursdayish, May 22ish:

What do you suppose this thing is?

YsaPur EsChomuw 05-22-2008 08:47 AM

a drawing

of a giant cocoon

of a horrible extraterrestrial

Stephi_B 05-22-2008 09:06 AM

That's a neutron with a quark (yes, they really look like popcorn! ;)) peeking outside
(and soon thinking better and getting inside again to his two mates).

OK, Perla where did you get that amazing photo from?!?

Hyakujo's Fox 05-22-2008 09:10 AM

Don't have to suppose. Disturbing what's beautiful sometimes.

Frieda 05-22-2008 09:59 AM

a booger

YsaPur EsChomuw 05-22-2008 10:05 AM

An illustration from the sequel to James and the Giant Peach
(James and the Giant Orange)

auntie aubrey 05-22-2008 11:39 AM

why, it's a peony bud lying on its side.

Brynn 05-22-2008 01:03 PM

It's a giant lump of tapioca about to crush a helpless farmer's barn.
And the government "knows nothing" about it.

Coffee 05-22-2008 02:13 PM

a waste of energy.

seebe 05-22-2008 03:15 PM

It's a scene from the movie Attack of the Killer Blastocyst.

YsaPur EsChomuw 05-22-2008 03:38 PM

The Return of the Turd

T.I.P. 05-23-2008 01:37 AM

a braingerine

brightpearl 05-23-2008 08:26 AM

Stephi, I found it browsing somewhere and thought it so weirdly beautiful that I followed the links to the original site, which is a Washington Post slideshow of the historical photograph collection at the National Museum of American History. It's a great slideshow -- click on start slideshow and then click on the little "32" at the bottom if you want to go straight to this one and find out what it is.

A couple of you guessed it. I had thought it was a drawing, too, of the birth of a star, maybe, with an earthly horizon as setting. There were echoes of aliens and navel oranges for me, too.

I like that it seems sort of fun when you first look at it, if you don't know what it is. It's good to have an open mind when you first think about anything. Power is just power, after all, and it can either drive all life on our planet or destroy it. The devil is in the details.

I actually didn't mean to get all philosophical in the qotd thread...my thinking about it grew from seeing the responses. Thanks for playing...
