i don't until i wake up.
unless i have a dream in which i dream that i am having a lucid dream. then it's more complicated and it takes at least 4 tries to understand if i'm asleep or awake and even then usually my house collapses on me or something. |
I don't.

I picked: "I used to get my kid to stick his fingers in his ears and holler the alphabet song to get rid of hiccups. It never worked, but it was funny." traditional Chinese-->English I once caused my child to adhere him and yell the alphabet song in his ear's finger to get rid of the makeing a belch sound. It has not operated, but it is funny. Russian-->English I used in order to obtain that my little-one he put his fingers in his ears and holler the song of alphabet in order to obtain freed hiccups. It never worked, but it was ridiculous. Ear's finger. Freed hiccups. Ridiculous. |

What's your ancestry? I'm told I'm mostly Irish and look it, with a bit of English and German judging from the surnames, and my great grandmother on my mother's side was Blackfoot. The one photo I've seen of her was labeled "Mary" and I figure that can't be at all right. She didn't look very happy. My mother got the straight black hair, beautiful. Also I've heard I'm 1/32 Balrog on my paternal grandfather's side, but I'm not sure that's true. |
dutch for at least 6 generations back
|
my father was German and Scottish
my mother always said she didn't know except Swedish (her maiden name was Witt which means fair skin or white hair) her maternal grandmother was one half Cherokee before that Bohemian (maternal grannies mother's maiden name was Salyer she hailed from Salyersville Kentucky) as as far as I can reckon that is an English name. my maternal grannies actual last name was Minnix. and however, I have always hoped that the hillbilly ancestors started as gypsies and I am therefore the one person alive who has a little of every race. : ) I've got my fingers crossed at any rate ;) |

American mutt
English, Scottish, Irish - but most recently in the big scheme of things, Dutch, I guess (grandparents - "Lisenbee") |
Norwegian - Mom's family came over from southern Norway in the 1860's and settled in Iowa and Dad's parents knew each other in Oslo and ran into each other on the street in Chicago 2 years later (1920) and married soon after. My folks met up in Colorado while my dad was in the army and stationed near where my mom was working for the summer. We are still in close contact with my dad's family - they've been here and we've all been back to Norway many times. Love Norway. :)

Lulu, I forgot you were adopted. Your photos always remind me of my mother. Maybe you're my long lost adopted first cousin?
...but no, you'd have to be a few years older than me, and you're younger. Fun to think about, though. |
hm - I could be related to just about anyone, if I wrote the plot correctly :p

ancestry: n. [answers-tree] a metaphorical tree to which people go to learn about themselves based on what kind of fruit the tree usually bears, and which branches they could possibly have hit on the way down.
Questiontry for Monday, the very first day of December 2008: Do you think it's important (for you personally) to keep records of your history - journals, diaries, newspaper cuttings, photos, awards etc.? |
|
your post reminds me
I have been thinking to call my daughters elementary school to see if they have a video of her singing forever young with the choir as part of a school play when she was in the 4th grade to post on you tube other than that no |
It might be, but I don't.... (except for some childhood photos)
(I used to excessively write diaries as teenie, but stopped after my mother read the current one when I was 16, 17 -- she told me that I'd be a gifted writer though....) |
physical detritus, no! we have enough ancient precious crap. my husband re-inherited all his old stuffed animals from his mom the other day, and we have no idea what to do with them. so much karma, but what use are they now?
I do tend to hoard data. I used to blog a lot, but lost the taste for it when I got into finance and my ability to publish writing in public got legally complicated. so now I just chronicle my dreams :p |
Yep, but the ability to do so on a boat is a problem...when i moved I pruned the pack rat cellar down to the essential stuff that could fit in a trunk stored on my folk's property...and kept a couple of semi-usefull bits for the boat.
Tossing out all that stuff felt risky at the time...wonder if im gonna regret dumping the memory hard copies someday. |
I have a friend who *was* a pack rat - she just lost all her belongings plus her house to black mold...
she says it was awful, but she's also appreciating the freedom from the weight of her past, if that makes any sense |
I just do it all here. I'm in the process of eliminating any written evidence (diaries, journals) around the house because I shudder to think of anyone reading it. I'm past the point of being candid in print, and incapable of feeling that anything is truly private anymore - more so after seeing diaries being subpoenaed in lawsuits while owners of them watched helplessly.
