Frieda 07-16-2008 06:19 PM

mel gibson is the worst fake semi-blootered scotsman ever.

and-- i just realised i'm working for the shutup man. he's on holiday now and i am considering actively taking over his role.

i think i will. mind if i borrow the image?

zero 07-16-2008 06:21 PM

please do! the bastard's such a burden to me!

Frieda 07-16-2008 06:22 PM

you're wearing it with pride, mr zero. well done.

frieda are you seriously taking the SHUTUP MAN in to your workplace??:D

Frieda 07-16-2008 07:39 PM

i think so

as soon as i've found a color printer i will print the image, hang it on the whiteboard and write "SHUT UP MAN" under it

i think my bossman will find it a pleasant surprise and a fine addition to his "caution, grumpy bastard" sign

Frieda 07-16-2008 07:40 PM

plus, i haven't yelled at anyone lately so it will help me too!

Brynn 07-16-2008 09:30 PM

sorry, this is the day I can't seem to recall anything at all, including what hasn't happened yet!

New question of the day:

Whose shoes (other than your own) would you like to walk in for a day, and can you trust them to handle your life?

zero 07-17-2008 02:31 PM

brynn i pondered and pondered this but came up with no answer because you see in the course of my ponderings i made a small self-discovery which is that the thought of swapping shoes with another human being (with the possible exception of zormix assuming she'd play along) gives me the right fvckken heebie jeebies

MoJoRiSin 07-17-2008 02:39 PM

I am on the same page as zero(a) except possibly a ten minute exchange as an olympic ice-skater

muchojackdaniel 07-17-2008 04:01 PM

yes i love hatss!

lukkucairi 07-17-2008 04:49 PM

I tend to go barefooted- how would I effect a shoe exchange?

brightpearl 07-17-2008 05:20 PM

OH I would like to exchange shoes with TIP on one of his few days off so that I could go to the Guggenheim.

Or with Lulu during Burning Man, although I wouldn't want to deprive her of one of her days there.

I've always wanted to speak Icelandic.

I'm sure any of these people could handle my life just fine, although they might all get a little tired of playing pirate with my kiddo.

Stephi_B 07-18-2008 08:31 AM

(am not good at these, never was, mmh, I'll make a clever guess, utter it in a determined way and smile in an amiable way, just like I always did in the organic chemistry exams...)

both boxes are violet, definitely!

Hyakujo's Fox 07-18-2008 08:37 AM

the missing word is "up"

brightpearl 07-18-2008 10:13 AM

I'munna go with both yellow, but the original question is based on a logical fallacy of post hoc, ergo propter hoc, in my humble opinion.

So probably Stephi's answer is better. It sticks it to the man.

lukkucairi 07-18-2008 12:33 PM

the line's bent and so am I

Brynn 07-18-2008 04:51 PM

It's where the binoculars go, silly.

MoJoRiSin 07-18-2008 06:00 PM

I think purple is a better way to phrase the violet answer....

=>both purple

no, no

that's the only way

the only way is up (baby)

zero 07-19-2008 02:22 AM

the question isn't really to do with deducing what colours the two white squares might be or what might be in them

no, it's about how come those two white squares can exist in the first place - given that the pieces and the overall size of each rectangle is the same,

from where do the two "extra" pieces come?

there is an answer. i'll post it later

YsaPur EsChomuw 07-19-2008 03:17 AM

First picture: 6 green columns, 5 blue ones
Second picture, green and blue swapped places, but yellow/red didn't follow green, so naturally, to preserve the original size, there must be extra squares, to fill up six columns.

You're thinking of the Missing square puzzle

zero 07-19-2008 03:27 AM

that's it

thank you for your kind asssistance in this bamboozlement

Odbe 07-19-2008 04:51 AM

The white squares are made of the same stuff that takes up space in your suitcase, so that you can always fit everything in at the start of your holidays but there's not enough room in the suitcase when you pack to come home again.

Of course, shopping may have something to do with that as well.

i always did suck at logic :p

Hyakujo's Fox 07-19-2008 11:01 AM

ok just for mr zero's sanity.

The blue and green shapes are not the same in the two diagrams. In the left picture the green has a left edge of 7 and a right edge of 9 and a bit, while in the right picture it has a left edge of 7 minus a bit and a right of 9, so it's area has decreased. And similarly for the blue. That's where the extra area comes from.

Coffee 07-19-2008 02:49 PM

Keep in mind that contractors charge ALOT extra for last minute changes to make extra closet space.

MoJoRiSin 07-19-2008 04:13 PM

...and they do not get it from the attic space....?

Bman 07-21-2008 12:25 AM
