coffee - boston hot cold cream honey
tea - sweet chi hot no correlation, I like coffee anything, been a fancy cup bottom drinker since age four |
I was denied all but a sip a day of coffee when I was a child.
This sip teased and titillated me. I craved my brown sweet love so much that I eventually took to shoplifting small bottles of instant coffee crystals from Safeway and would satiate my needs in the cool solace of my willow tree fort. Mixing the instant joy with warm hose water & Nestlé’s Quick. Years later a therapist took all the romantic recollection from my memories by explaining my behaviors as self medication by a depressed youth suffering from severe ADHD. As a completely 100% {no, seriously} healthy adult , I drink my coffee as strong and thick as I can get it. I avoid dark roasted brews, however. I love strength but abhor bravado. |
mac chiato at café moltov with la strembonita and her boner
TEATIME is sacrosanct |
i drink my coffee black and full of sugar
i drink my tea green or black and full of sugar that's what makes me so sweet :) |
Coffee with cream with the highest fat content available, certainly not chemical cow or as low as 2%, whipping cream or in a pinch sweetened condensed milk will do though I don't like sweet coffee much.
Correlation: always eat full fat foods and eschew "lite," really there's nothing more to it. Fat gives satiety and tastes like the actual food. |

I enjoyed your correlation, btw. :) I usually drink mine half Cafe Valdez from a French press, half hot skim milk, no sugar. If I don't add milk, I do add sugar, but not very much. And then every once in a while, I have a double latte with whole milk and a lot of flavored syrup, and chocolate powder on top. And whipped cream. Lots of other parts of my life are like that...Moderation nearly all the time, and I'm really happy with that nearly all the time. I'm reluctant to splurge, but when I finally do, I don't feel guilty about it. |

i typically drink neither. which.... correlates..... um....
no wait no wait no wait. sometimes, rarely, once in a blue moon i'll enjoy a cafe latte with a shot of almond. which means i.... oh god let me think. it means i like the fine things in life but accept that their scarcity is what makes them special. |

i used to drink tea before i decided to eliminate hot caffeinated beverages from my life. no sugar, no milk. unsweetened all the way. i also drink iced tea completely unadulterated and unsweetened, when i drink iced tea.
there's a perfect correlation between this and the way i regard food, as well. i never add seasoning to food once it's prepared. i never touch the salt and pepper shakers at restaurants. i don't add soy sauce to chinese food. i don't add ketchup to fries. the only adornment i'll add is a little extra parmesan to italian food and extra tzatziki to greek food (when applicable). the way i see it, things taste the way they're supposed to taste once they hit the table. after that you've got to stop fiddling with it. once tea is brewed it's either good tea or just don't drink it. don't go fiddling with it and adding stuff to perk up the flavor. and like life, you should take things at face value without trying to muddle around too much to fix it to your liking. there's no good logic to it, it's just how i do things. |
Coffee: 30% overdosed french press, once tall cup in the morning with from 1-1 1/2 tsp of sugar. Roast varies, as does varietal. I roast my own beans so mix it up frequently but tend towards medium to medium dark roasts on average, with occasional light and dark roasts for variety.
Tea: Only used in emergencies (when I forgot to roast coffee and run out of the fixing for a 'real' morning beverage), preferably black tea with a tsp of sugar or honey. Correlates to my DIY nature...not so amusing i guess, but fark it. |
^^ (auntie) you're the polar opposite of my dad in that aspect. He's usually looking for the salt shaker before we've even entered the restaurant.
I also try to resist the urge of adding salt, and I find that eating is a more interesting experience that way. Don't give me fries without ketchup though ! |

I agree with you too, Auntie (and TIP). I do put ketchup on my fries about half the time, tho'. And coffee, I find it very amusing that you roast your own coffee. :) |
Strong black irish tea. I take the milk, pour it into the milk cap, just enough to fill the centre part which sits inside the milk container neck, then put that amount into my tea.
The hidden meaning is that I'm mentally unstable. |
i drink my coffee very strong (espresso or ristretto in restaurants) and very sweet with lots of sugar.
stuff gives me a kick-start and keeps me going if necessary. hidden meaning is that i probably don't sleep enough to stay awake without caffeinated substances :D edited to add: no sugar in the tea, i drink jasmine tea or mint tea.. sometimes camomile. black tea and the green tea weird stuff makes my stomach feel odd. |
I'm a tea-drinker. Tetley's for preference - brewed very strong, with goat milk in it (I'm allergic to cow's milk). Sometimes I take a half teaspoon of sugar, but lately not.
Hidden meaning? I have a hidden traditional streak, but I'm nonetheless unable to conform. Out of the five tastes, I prefer bitter. I like the bitter taste of tea that's been brewed a little too long. I like bitter because it keeps you on your toes. It's a complex kind of sensation - hard to love, but worth it if you succeed. ...If I might jump-start a question for tomorrow (it's almost tomorrow here - it's tomorrow already on the other side of the Atlantic...!) What's your preference in the range of the five tastes? And why? - Salty - Sweet - Sour - Bitter - Umami* *Umami being the kind of proteinaceous flavor you realize you're missing after a day of eating nothing but potato chips. |
sour
![]() cos: "Sauer macht lustig." (Sour makes merry.) ;) |
I love them all equally
|
I love them all too, crave all of them from time to time (I like bitter tea, too, lukku). But I definitely have a sugar problem. I'm hypoglycemic and totally use it to self-medicate. :D
I love that scene in Elf where Will Ferrell maintains that the four food groups are candy, candy canes, candy corn, and syrup. |
btw it's possible there are more tastes, such as rotten. :D
|
umami
|
salty and sour
|
definitely umami and sour.
Btw, for anyone interested in experiencing umami, check out this recipe. Tastebud heaven. :D |
they're all great.
who wants to box themselves in? yin and yang etc etc :) |
^^ yes, yes, and I don't have a favorite color either...
but I find myself tending to buy clothes in a certain hue more than others - I do have a preference, even if it's subtle. I would not be without the other tastes, but I have a special spot in my heart (and on my tongue) for bitter - it often completes a dish that would otherwise be kind of bland and ordinary. |
salty!
harrr |
^^ want a salty dog?
grapefruit juice + vodka + salted rim YUM. |
Sour, preferably something also a little salty that will burn a hole in my tongue. Mmm..
|
ok, new question for tuesday 30.10
how many people would you shed tears for if they died? |
A few, plus thirty-eight old people.
|
For my closest family & friends and my dearest colleagues
- all in all ca. 15-20 people. Maybe I'd also cry (though not with close as much intensity as for the above) for some great person I didn't know personally, but during my life (my conscious life - when Lennon died for example I was few months old) no such person died yet (or I had other troubles at the time? didn't hear about it?). |
3 so far...
|
a lot

Can not give you a specific number..hopefully, I am not done meeting people I may care about. If someone enriches your life, brings you love, happiness/joy, then it follows that their loss would bring you tears. Ask for a list of those I would not shed tears for, and a number might be more readily available.
|
i meant if they died today of course. not people yet unmet.
so the answer is the worlds population minus those you wouldn't shed a tear for (since that number is more readily available). anyway, my answer is 4 blood relations and about 15 friends. roughly equates with my christmas present list. :) |

I answered the question as asked. But, coming from a large family, it is many more than your mentioned numbers for both family and friends. Though not nearly as large as AKH's list........:p |

yeah, some people cry easier than others. i mean those
people who's death would cause you such grief that you would lose control of your emotions, i guess. i was thinking about the large number of friends i have, and how important they were to me, and wondering how many people can be that important. i mean, how much space have we got in our lives? that sort of thing :) |
