I love the author of this article.

Quote:

Others think the fish are purposely attacking boaters who invade their turf, but Dr. Sulak said sturgeon were as docile as lambs. He sometimes acts as their public relations agent, encouraging curious boaters to watch as he nets sturgeon for population counts. They lie quietly on a scale in his boat, their rough, cold bodies looking bronze one second, greenish gold the next.

Some onlookers melt. “Once they see they’re not monstrous, they don’t have big teeth, they’re not mean — they’re kind of lovable, in a way,” he said, “that kind of defuses things.”

My work.

Care worker: I've tried to her attend her three times and she called me a b*tch so I walked out and left her

Mad resident: She just walked out on me!

Snake: Yes, but I know what you called her to make her walk out on you

Mad resident: I called her nothing that wasn't completely reasonable

And also.

"We got Mum stitching name labels on Dad's clothing because it's something we discovered she can still do.......then we found she'd sewn them all onto the fronts of his clothing"

bit of text on zapruder.nl

translated:
While the price of oil futures is breaking all records, two billion people are watching a worldwide rockshow to endorse awareness about "global warming". With a rock-hard indoctrination campaign the world population is made clear that "we should be more economical because the time to act is now". Meanwhile, a war machine is raging through the Middle East that is consuming more oil every day than the whole of Switzerland. In the name of the war on terror tons of depleted uranium are being pumped into the atmosphere and into the earth and they are lobbying to blow up a nuclear plant in Iran. Mr Gore.....yeah right....

auntie aubrey 07-10-2007 03:19 PM

i don't get that last line. what does gore have to do with the decisions made by this administration?

you might as well say "auntie aubrey, yeah right."

Frieda 07-10-2007 03:31 PM

hmmm i guess "yeah right" isnt a good translation for that line.. it's like we're telling mr gore that it's useless to take part in his environmental campaign because the government is spilling everything anyway. it's dutch sarcasm i guess.. i can't figure out how to translate it properly! any ideas?

auntie aubrey 07-10-2007 04:18 PM

maybe something along the lines of "nice try, gore."

(although i disagree with the sentiment. making an effort still counts.)

funkytuba 07-10-2007 04:37 PM

how about.... .

Mr. Gore... whatever...

or

Mr. Gore... you've got bigger fish to fry.

or

Mr. Gore... keep your eye on the ball.

or

Mr. Gore... you can't see the trees for the forest.
