^Well, it depends on what your usual intake is, but I've heard some nutritionists say that if you cut too many calories at one time, your body may go into "starvation mode" and respond by adjusting two particular hormones in an effort to conserve will function to make it harder for fat to leave your fat cells, and the other will function to make it easier to store fat in your fat cells. I know some people who don't seem to have had that response, but if you go on a big diet and don't lose weight, try eating more for a bit, and then start exercising a little more and cut 200 calories at a time. When you plateau again, cut 200 more, and add in more exercise...
