speaker help

Ok so one of my compy's treble speakers has broken so I need a new set. This one's trebles sucked anyway. So I need some advice. I'm looking for something which will give me a *really* fat bass but still decent clarity and no distortion on the treble even when it's pretty loud.
I have no idea about speakers. I'm looking to spend about 50 or less. (yeah yeah I'm a cheap ass student).
If anyone has any knowledge on the subject i'd appreciate some advice

it does depend a bit on your sound card as well..

Creative has a pretty good speaker set, the Inspire 4.1 4400, but if your sound card doesn't support 4.1 then it's a bit overkill. that set is 69 euros here, i think that's about 50 pounds.

it has a wooden 17 watt RMS subwoofer and 4 satellite speakers of 6 watt RMS.

Altec Lansing is a good brand as well. i couldn't find a lot of info.. maybe you can search tom's hardware guide

that's the perfect soundcard for a Creative 5.1 set.. are you sure you don't want to spend a little bit more to get the most out of your sound card?

the Inspire 5.1 is 95 euros.. that's about 67 pounds. then you'll have your sound card perfectly matched with your speaker set.

found the site of altec lansing! find info on systems at the pc gaming section and the pc music one..

I think the price has made my mind up - if I get one it'll be the creative. The AL is 100 bucks I found the creative one brand new on ebay for 45 bucks including shipping, so I might go for that.

Thanks Frieda

np! it never hurts to help!

i think 100 dollars is cheaper than 95 euros.. hehe.. if those are us dollars of course.

the AL has a better sound, but the Creative is optimalized for your sound card. i think you're making a good choice! you are going for the 5.1, aren't you?

be careful on ebay by the way!
