Will the U.S. Invade Iran? - ZEFRANK.COM

I don't think we will. Not because we're thinned out to the point we're using National Guardsmen and recalling inactive reserve to send to Iraq but because Iran is only a political issue for Republicans to look tough and win elections.

People are still dying in parts of Africa because of Saddam-like people, North Korea is still working on their nuclear capabilities and are at the point of testing missiles in the Sea of Japan, what makes Iran any different?

On top of that, knowing that the younger generation of Iran were primarily pro-U.S., why would our leader add to anti-Americanism by threatening to invade a country that has hope within the next 5-10 years? They either need to decide to support us and end up like Iraq or they will have to fight us. I know I wouldn't want to live in Iraq right now.

Summary, either Bush is really stupid or it's for political gain. Either way, I believe we won't invade Iran.

According to what I heard on "Democracy Now", the US has already sent out some naval ships towards Iran. Since Bush has only made veiled threats towards Iran, it's thought that, like Iraq, he will begin the war obliquely and unilaterally, by blockading Iran's ports with Naval ships. When Iran retaliates against this act of war, Bush will call it an unprovoked attack and declare war.

That's only speculation, though. Certainly, the escalation in hints and allegations against Iran is worrisome, considering this administrations track record of deceit and warmongering. At least, they won't have Colin Powell there to make a fake case of it.

There's probably little doubt that the iraninan army and air-force - which aren't much chop by all accounts - would be easily overcome by the well-equipped, well-trained and huge american forces. However, unlike Iraq, Iran has

a shiite muslim majority of about 90%

a distinct lack of opposition to the existing government

widespread support for its government from its financial sector

Having had a wee rethink, an estimate of a resistance movement three times bigger than that of Iraq's is conservative to say the least. What a picture it paints................and he's still bloody stupid enough to do it.

We always have ships off the coast of Iran, in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. We constantly escort ships through the Straights of Hormuz as well. On one deployment, Iran had sent out a small vessel to watch us, on one of the deployments I was on, and nothing happened.

That would be a valid point if we never did that. We have a constant gulf presence.

Impeach. It'll never happen w/ a Republican majority in both House and Senate, but I just like saying it.

Heard on the news 2 days ago that Pakistan won't let us find bin Laden in their country. Didn't we just invade a country a few years ago over a lie? The constant inconsistancy gives me a headache.

What I find funny is that from the 97 World Trade Center bombing, Oklahoma City bombing, the USS Cole, the American embassies, I still felt safe when Clinton was in office. Now, we're "fighting terrorism" in a country that has no bearing on terrorism and we're living in fear because of why? Realistically there's possibly going to be another attack but the likelyhood of it happeing in Podunk, Idaho, is unrealistic. Not to digress this "lively" thread, but why is there a fear when nothing has changed other than Iraq is now a poster child for anti-American sentiment?

What's more, the "red" states - places like Podunk, Iowa that voted for Bush are getting the lion's share of the Homeland Security funding in order to better protect such high security risks like their local ice skating rinks while the security budget in New York is slashed.

Bush has played right into Bin Laden's "master plan" - to unite the Arab world against the United States. The Shiites that we're fighting in Iraq are completely bolstered by foreign Shiites from the neighboring countries, as near as I can make out.

The fear factor is merely a ploy to win elections. I'll bet you five bucks that something just disastrous enough happens (or is "about to happen") to the country right before national elections in 2008.
