As Canadian as possible, under the circumstances

And herein lies the key to this big load of gunnah:
While Canadians pride themselves on knowing more about us than we do about them (undoubtedly true), the problem--captured in a survey done for Canada Day in 2000--is that even historically challenged Americans know more about ourselves than Canadians do about themselves. In parallel 10-question quizzes on everything from our first president/prime minister to the words of our respective national anthems, 63 percent of Americans scored five or more right answers. Hello, whatever-your-name-is, maybe you just missed a big point.

Canada is the True North, Strong and Free. She is the land of tolerance, civility and mutual respect. She is a non-hegemonist, well-meaning global citizen. She divides media to offer all points of view on the mainstream airwaves, is paying off government debt steadily as others pile it up, offers health insurance to all within her borders, and has half of the world's fresh water.
I moved to China. |

If it could be made to be as financially painless as possible, I'd move to Vancouver in a heartbeat.

Easier than you think, kiddo. And Van is lovely through and through...
...so long as you give East hastings a wide berth.

Like all those other things that don't matter, not until you don't have any.

Hi Trisherena

In all fairness, Canada is far from perfect, but it has many positive points as well. The article is written by someone who has a watermelon wedged permanently up his netherregions sideways, while getting a wedgy at the same time - he must be having a bad day. I visit the US, know people in the US and enjoy travelling there. But what's the big deal about Americans being pissed with Canadians? The reality is, if you can accept it, many Americans I have come across either in person, or in forums such as this, have overinflated egos as to 'America'. This particular Canadian doesn't really give a rat's arse what nationality you are or what country you originate from - if you're a decent person, you're a decent person. If you're an ass, well...that person will become awfully lonely somewhere down the road if they aren't already. People simply thrive on conflict and the governments of both countries keep it so by brainwashing the minions. Anyone who can't see the political games that are played needs to remove the layer of film from they glasses. |
