BIG TRAVEL PLANS...

My lesbian aunts are leaving tomorrow for Paris (2 days there) then they fly to South Africa (4 weeks there) then they fly to England (a few days there) then they return to southern Oregon.

They have been saving for over 10 years for this trip. I lived with them all through high school and when I needed a few extra dollars I would steal change out of their change jar which was the start of the savings for this trip. Sometimes I feel guilty about that.

What exciting places have you all been to? Or plan on going to? Or fantasize about going to? Or would never go to? Or went to and hated? Went and want to go again?

I want to pack up everything I own and move to Taos, NM. It is the closest I am ever going to get to Heaven so I may as well go now.

I was just talking with a co-worker about NM. Have you been there?

There are plenty of places I want to go to but the first thing that came to my mind was a place I want to visit again. This is going to be so lame but I would love to go to Niagara Falls again. Sim and I spent our first week together there. I guess going there would refresh our already fond memories. It was heavenly. I can even remember the scent of the soap we used while there.

Every year we go to Taos for a week or ten days. My husband and daughter ski; I don't. I just go out there to BE. It is the coolest place in the world to just BE. Mountains, the Rio Grande, a great cross-section population of all sorts of people, lots of history, tons of art, amazing stars at night, gorgeous sunsets and canyons and lots of places to explore, and the FOOD -- OMG! Northern New Mexico is almost like a different country. I love it there.

There are so many places in the US that I've never been to that I really want to go. I think that I'd go almost anywhere except China and India. And the Arctic. I'm not so into cold. I'd go to Alaska and Canada, but not permafrost land.

I've been to Jamaica, Japan, Canada, NYC, Chicago, Florida, Portland Maine, Boston, Hawaii, California, all over Oregon, Seattle, Colorado and Minnesota. I think that's it. I love to travel.

Fantasy:

Antarctica

Trans Siberian Railway

India

NYC, Chicago, Georgetown, all of those deep south states, Colorado, Maine, Nova Scotia, the alaskan fjords

Canada

Greece

Viet Nam

Japan

Again (but still fantasy):

Berlin now that it is reunited and the former East Germany

the italian riviera

the Barrier Reef

Scotland: greshornish house The bedroom in the pic is the actual one we stayed on on our fourth wedding anniversary. After we had had a candlelit supper (pun intended) for two in the loungeroom pictured whilst watching the sun go down over the loch (also pictured) and the bunnies (not pictured) come out to play on the lawn.

I know you were all waiting for it....
I'm in Niagara. Zaftig, let me know if you are coming this way and I'll help to get you a nice place to stay, and I'll give you a tour that most visitors never even realized existed. I know the good restaurants, and where to park for free, a nice wine tour, and a couple of terrific hikes. Just keep that in mind.

I've been all over the states and Canada. I've been to Mexico. I've been to Britain and France.
I want to go and see New Orleans as an adult.
I want to see Europe and Australia.
Not to much to ask for right?

Mad, that place you stayed at in Scotland is absolutely gorgeous!

Aphro, thanks for the offer, we'll be sure to let you know if we ever head back over there. I'm sure we will, won't be for a while, but thanks! We weren't your average tourists when we were there though. We went hiking and did the butterfly conservatory thing but never seen the falls during the day the whole week we were there! Well, we saw them when we did the helicopter ride over the falls but that's it. It gave us a reason to have to go back! There was some majorly good food going on there though.
