I think you're getting this thread confused with "magazine club".

Gah! Somebody please pick something. I have about two weeks that I can use to read something thoroughly ELSE. Or I can dick around and watch the rest of the entire Battlestar Galactica series. Edward James Olmos and Natasha Henstridge, or... ?

Have any of you ever read "The Little Prince"? It is a book made by a french man, so it's in french. But there is a English translation.

ugh sorry I had great intentions but unfortunately am a very very very slow reader.....
So, Craig. What I didn't get was - I was expecting a huge finale, where all the stories came together and finally made sense. I thought it was a little bit pathetic to suggest that because of a comet birthmark, and a general sense of the human condition, and that life is great really, despite everything, and there is hope - that was supposed to be the link??? It could just as well have been a few randomly put-together stories about anything. So yeah basically I expected a more intelligent link & ending..... xx |

'kay - I read the rest of it in increasingly more frenzied bursts - Once I figured out all the stories were ending, well... somehow that makes one want to know "what's gonna happen?" Not so great to do on a work night
![]() ![]() I really loved it, and I think he's going to be a great writer. But I think his greatest work is yet to come. The voice of each character was very clearly delineated, the genres were faithfully rendered, the stories were interesting, exciting and compelling, and the form was unusual and effective. But I felt like most of the characters were very two-dimensional - with Sonmi, that was to be expected due to the events of her life - but I felt as if that extra work of providing little quirks, little clues that give you insight into a character's inner world, didn't get done. Possibly why he was nominated for but didn't *win* the Man Booker. With a *great* book, I feel as if through reading about the life of the characters within, I've learned something about myself and my world. [eta: Also, as if I've met real people - for better or for worse ![]()
