Ruction:
A rolling platform, akin to a dolly, used to transport scolding ideologues from one public gathering place to the next to deliver freshly crafted harangues before they fall flat. (The harangues, that is, not the ideologues nor the ructions on which they are wheeled about. Harangues must be carefully prepared and promptly delivered or they go flat and stale.)

RUCTION - (n. slang) - Late 20th century term referring to injurious interpersonal energy produced in crowded places, e.g., in dance club mosh pits or during clearance sales at Filene's or Loehmann's department stores. A contraction of the term "ruckus" and "friction."

Ruction
The sound a fellow makes before a Gorgon Changes corpore sano to campagna sano, Or makes when there are tulips on the organ Instead of merely roses on the piano.

Ruction n. usually plural (ructions)
A tsunami like reaction by one's mother when caught swinging on the gate, throwing plasticine, eating mud, punching the dog etc... Normally prefaced by threats up to and including waiting for your father to get home. "If you dont stop that right this minute young man, there will be ructions" |

Ok...
Ruction: A riotous disturbance; a noisy quarrel. [altered - Insurrection, orig. with reference to the Irish Inssurrection of 1798] Ok..the judging.wonderful entries all....soo hard to decide...exept this first one ![]() xfox pfft...perhaps your submission might have swayed of judge of the female persuasion...but it fell flat with me, esp since I don't care for B. Springstains. Thanks though for your submission, I have to admit that it is a great picture of the BS. honorable mentions, but still throw outs for being to close to the truth: Dinzdale Thanks for sharing a series of fond familial scenes. However, it really just made me feel sorry for poor Mrs Dinz ( I wonder how she is doing?) for having to put up with your wild childhood pranks. Thank you though, for your submission. Smartypants creative use of the word with a twist on the word origin, but the altercationish nature of your definition is too close to the actual definintion for comfort. ty for your submission. Honorable mentions without reference to actual word deffinition. Marcus Bales...I'm not sure what the hell any of that meant...but the tulips on an organ comment made my blood preasure rise a bit...so thanks for that. Zenbabe one can only wonder what kind of rupture you refer to that might result in auctionable items...I couldn't figure anything out, but I bet it is on Ebay somewhere. Thanks for your submission. Third place runner up: MsRobbie An inspired definition that sounds very very pluasible, if not very funny. But high marks for consise definition with great plausibility. Second Place runner up: Funkytuba for Pee Wee Herman 'ruction def. I almost gave the first place to this one since it was so near to the sort of definition I thought the word might elicit...but the winners suprise submission won out. The WINNER: Sparticle for a variety of reasons. The very subtle inclusion of a "altercationist" theme but with a vehicular twist scored very high by not using the word as "the riot" as per SP and Dinz's submissions, but rather as a device to tranport one to a riotious type of scene. Extra points for including an impromptu extra definition (harrangue) and for using the extra Def as a food theme (and a funny one at that) which also coincidentally served to propel me into the winners circle last go around. And, to top it all off... she is Irish which ties into the actual word root origin, probably closer than we imagine, as I am fairly certain her fiesty ancestors caused or had a hand in the Irish Insurrection of 1798 and thus we wouldn't have had that fine word to play with today were it not for Spart's cantankerous ancestors. Kudos to Sparticle. I anxiously await your Dictionary word. |
