Well, rather surprisingly perhaps, nowhereman, that is within my capacity for imagining -- a group of people growing frustrated with not liking something or other happening on a message board, and taking themselves, en masse, elsewhere -- but being unable to quite wrench themselves away from the original board.
Good luck finding your special place. |

Wow, this has escalated quite a bit over the past 10 hours. I'm surprised that the debate is still going on, though.
The facts have been stated by the moderator (ze) and yet we're still arguing over subjectivities... Now THAT was uncalled for. Remember the whole "unless you're funny" clause? ![]() No, seriously. Let's take a gigantic Chill Pill. ![]() Perhaps we could take a peek @ the Calm Down bread? Or has that already been linked to?

Hello ICQer's
I guess it's mostly been said, but I'd already written it, and what's another page? Sorry Auntie! Most new arrivals here come because they've seen what goes on here, liked it and want to add to it. So it is a bit disconcerting for the regulars for a very large (for this board) influx of new members turn up and the primary reason they're here (as we read) is simply to try to escape the situation on another board. That's not to say we can't get along and find things in common, but we don't know that yet. This board has been able to function, with a few notably exceptional periods, with a minimum of rules and moderation (other than in de-spamming) and it only comes into operation when Ze feels the need to step in and stop things getting out of hand. Part of the reason it can be that way is because most people, most of time, mostly know where the limits of board etiquette are. I'm not saying we're just one big happy family here, we're not, but I suspect it's (currently) a much more friendly (and quiet) place than where you've just come from. Now these aren't rules, Ze is God here and he has already spoken, but I'd offer these as some of the reasons people might be getting pissed off, if you're interested. (Others may disagree, this is my perception). - We don't have the political rhetoric permanently turned up to 11 here, so calling those you don't politically agree with nazis, etc. is not going to be well received. Ideally you allow people some space to be on the other side of your argument, otherwise what are you doing other than insulting people? - We don't start a huge number of threads every day, so a few threads well discussed (or even a lot of threads well discussed) is going to be better received than lots of threads with little follow up. - Basic one-to-one personal communications are generally handled through the PM system, not new threads. - The functions of the sub-forums are generally respected, everything else goes in FAST CHAT. Again these aren't rules, just the way we've often, but never always, behaved in the past. Anyway, welcome. ![]() And welcome to the other new arrivals. ![]() Yes, okay we can get very protective of this board! |

I can understand the friction on both sides. Granted, we were not really informed about all the ins and outs of this board prior to our arrive. This could have been planned much better. The person in quesiton had good intentions so I don't fault that person at all. You folks had no idea a big group of people were coming to invade your board and we had no idea that we were actually invading your board. I think that is the gest of what is going on here. I never meant to invade anyones personal space and if that is what I did, I apologise to all who feel this way. I would no more like it happening to myself either.

it makes you realise what a peaceful place this has become.
i guess most of us have learned who we are likely to find annoying and we just ignore them. i'm also very impressed again at the response of those above who have attempted to explain the situation to the new folks. trish, i bow before you! it's kind of a shame, cos it's good to have new people, but not if they bring a whole lot of hysterical baggage. oh well, can we get back to taking the p*ss out of zero now? ![]()

Hello too
Hello
I'm a newcomer too, I've never really frequented forums but registered for this thanks to zefrank.com. I'm from Dublin, living in Cork at the mo. I'm going to Florence this Tueday for a couple of days - can anyone recommend things to see in a very short time? I'll have a day and a half to wander aimlessly through the city. Kate

i' recommend two things - one is to wait until it gets to be evening and then follow groups of people as they go out. i did this and it led me to these hidden piazzas with live music and open air bars, that i wouldn't have found otherwise. the other suggestion is to rent a car and go to http://www.borgoargenina.com/ for a couple nights...or if you have only a day visit the brolio castle winery http://www.ricasoli.it/ in the heart of chianti. |

pretty hard to go wrong in florence, but yeah, try to get away from the crowds and see some of the surroundings. oh, and eat away from the main tourist routes.
enjoy! ![]()
