Beyond Theology, The Art of Godmanship - Alan Watts.

I'm on my second read of it...way too much to digest in one meal.

A facinating look at Christianity from the point of view of "other religions" as well as from within.

Ya, ok...this is kind of a wierd one, in that it will probably not interest anyone not from this area...but I'm loving it.

Images of America, Sonoma Valley.
Valerie Sherre Mathes ( < a friend of my mom's..which is how I learned of the book) and Diane Moll Smith and the Sonoma Valley Historical Society.

Superb photo history of Sonoma and the surrounding towns. Photos back to and throughout the General Vallejo "Mission/Barracks/Bear Flag revolt" era (c. 1830's-1890) up to the mid 1950's. All the photos have very complete captions detailing who what when and where with tons of views of the evolving Plaza area. It's a really decent history of my adopted town.

I can't wait till it stops raining so I can bicyle around with the book and locate existing "original" structures.
Its also great for my Costume reference...Clothes from the Vallejo period are very appropriate for Victorian era costumes.

"Imperial Hubris, Why the West is Losing the War on Terror,"

published under "Anonymous" but now known to be written by Michael Scheuer, "a 22-year CIA veteran. He served as the Chief of the Bin Laden Unit at the Counterterrorist Center from 1996 to 1999. He resigned from the CIA in 2004," according to Wikipedia.

A very interesting read.

Diana Gabaldon - Outlander

I've just finished rereading this series - so good! Ostensibly historical romances, they are far more than that. I would seriously recommend this to history buffs who enjoy the Jacobean era in Scotland - the series ends up in America just before the Revolutionary War and will continue. It's very well researched and has a fascinating time travel element to it. Next book due this year I hope.

love
Jo

The Gulag Archipelago by Aleksandr Sozhenitsyn

Firsthand tale of the waves of arrests that took place after the Bolshevik revolution from a man who was arrested falsely himself during the same period. While reading it I came to the realisation that the mandates that allowed these arrests are similiar to the powers given to our government by the Patriot Act. Very frightening.
